Flatwater barrel roll on a SJ

I just picked up a SN SJ and was wondering how much BRAP is needed to do a flatwater barrel roll, or a barrel roll off a typical boat wake.

Is a stock 701 w/ a B pipe enough BRAP? If not, how much more is needed?

Not concerned with hull mods, or skill levels, just a basic opinion of what is the min engine mods necessary.

Can they be done with a totally stock SJ?

setup wake and technique are most important. dont let the hype fool you. Add power to your motor as you need it. most guys have skis that are way too powerful for their skill lvl, me being one of them lol.

ive seen flatwater rolls on stock sj's, heck even a 650sx.

Good advice right there!

They can fosho be done on stockers. In my opinion it is all about the set up wake and keeping your momentum up. You just have to do everything hard and fast

if it can be done on stock ski;s like shown then what more would you want than a b pipe and a head for doin rolls
it would take some time to set it up and develop some skill
but would cost less in the long run

Bingo, people want the biggest, baddest engine, and spend twice as much time wrenching/building as they do practicing.

I can't even ride my 760 to it's potential yet, so why would I need a Lamey or 66E?

Take a look at jetskee.com also, he had a stock SJ last year and can roll it most of the way.

I thought he had a later vid, this was early on after getting it:

I have a RIVA head w/ 35cc domes and a Factory B pipe for my SJ, so along with some footholds/straps, it seems that should be enough to learn the basics.

Very cool!

I have started with a Stock 650 SN not doing rolls but practising set up wakes over and over and over...I think that is very important aspect since I have learned that the right wake/speed configuration gets way more air !

Footholds are very helpfull ! And watching videos to implant the movement in your brain.

I believe you should not compensate skillz with engine power, so if you are able to pull it on stock/light mod ski you will be able to perfection it on big brap ski !

Best get yourself a better skilled rider they will push you harder and can explain motions better.

And wear HELEMT, unless you dont care about having teeth !!!

I'm going to give it a shot this year.

Footholds, B pipe, Prop, and steering mods, shaving 8-10 lbs via AM hood.
Power wise it will be a relatively stock ski.

I'd say a prop is your most important power piece for rolling a stock ski.

If I can't do it flatwater, I'll at least be able to throw one off a small roller or small boat wake.

Tecnique is everything with flatwater tricks. I'm in no hurry to upgrade my power until I have the fundamentals downs. If 701cc isn't enough to roll a boat with a 160lbs guy on it, than you arn't good enough to deserve more power.

You may be able to roll a 760 boat easier than a 701, but a lot of guys are learning to do so on a larger motor. This doesn't develop good habits and usually is just the fast way to get there. Not the right way.

Just my opinion.

i agree huge power does not make up for lack of skill...

but it sure is nice :bananalama:
