Made a new friend this past weekend and he shared some great pics from our opening day ride here in PA. Here is a sequence from a flatwater flip attempt. It's been 5 months since I've been on the water but these pics get me excited!

I started flipping last year but still can only do so from boat wakes. I can't get the whole way around on my own yet. I'm ridding a carbon brawler hull, 840cc jetworks superbore stock stroke, laydown RRP pipe, solar pump, stock/MSD ignition. I really don't wanna throw any money or parts (pump/TL) at it this year. I think I'm so close that a little technique or coaching would get me around.

Anything from the pics stand out to anyone? Any ideas to try? No idea is a bad idea, I welcome all thoughts!

Thanks in advance,
-Nick

Looks like you are plowing thru that setup wake. I use to do it alot until @FlyinRyan324 pointed out I need to hit them earlier.

When you get upside down snap your head back to spot the landing. It looks like you are just holding on and waiting for the rest to just happen. Yank the bars. At the Apex too.

The pre squat and hop look good

Are you coming to Carolina Freeride? It's easier to learn in surf and then try to speed it up for flatwater.

Your close, keep at it

Hey Nick! When you get a chance, message me a few videos. Get slo mo if possible. Name is Ryan Doberstein on FB.
As @DAG said, you're soooo close! Unfortunately I don't see a whole heck of a lot to improve on here. You're yanking back great at the bottom of the wake. However, you don't get much height. If you can shoot up a little more into the air, only about a foot extra, and keep that same rotation and form, you'd get it around.

The 2 hardest things about Flatwater flipping are:
1. The setup wake
2. Timing

Video will help me study your setup wake and timing.

Luckily I've had the advantage of making setup wakes for 10 years before ever trying a backflip. But, I still mess up my setup wake about 30% of the time.

There's so much more advice that I could say. Maybe I should just write a book or something haha.

If there was any money in our sport I'd turn to coaching. I enjoy coaching and watching others succeed more than I enjoy riding myself. Feel free to get in touch. I am fairly confident we'll have you plate to plate by Memorial Day

Also, one of the biggest things I've learned from wakeboarding and throwing spins, etc, is to leave the wake, THEN do your trick. It sounds almost impossible when you don't have loads of hang time, but it is a great concept to think of. A lot of times we will tend to rush the spin/flip off the wake- leading to no hangtime. Spinning before you leave the wake also has a high tendency to get off axis. Granted, you're not spinning here, but you get the idea

Edmond ok
Yeah as Ryan said, we need a video to see the setup. Everything else looks good. You are really close and have the form figured out.
You might be coming at your setup wake too fast. That's the most common thing for new people, or if you've flipped off wakes.
Flipping flat water you almost want to come to a stop in the trough after you pop the nose up (that's how slow you are going)

Post a video and we can see your setup and speed.

Your flips off of the V Wakes are huge!

When you get out next, take a video of you making the setup wake and then hitting the wake. I watched your 2016 Flatwater attempts video and it looks like you're just hitting your own wake without it "doubling up". If so, I'd only dare to try that on a fully built world finals competition ski. Anything less than that, you're asking for a face full of water.
You want to make a setup wake like a "J". On that video, it looked like u went straight, then turned around quick and hit that wake.

Can't tell from pics but from experience and watching others, most of the time when your learning you are going to fast. Try slowing down to get the timing right (if bigger enough motor you can basically do an idle flip using the wave, however they are hard to ride out of with no forward momentum), Basically, you need to ride up the wave, hit the throttle earlier, and let the ski do the work. Try to spot your landing which will help with the bars coming to your chest.
