Are there any benefits to going with a mag pump on flatwater?

My boat doesn't hook up very well in turns. Would a mag pump cure this?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I live 300 miles from surf. I still managed to ride 50% surf last year and hope to move to the coast this summer/fall.
But, in order to spend the money NOW, I need some convincing for my manager.

I really can't speak for a Superjet but I have rode SXRs with mag pumps. It is night and day difference with the hookup with a mag pump vs non. The hookup is all over (turns/chop/etc)

Yes.
Mag pumps put the power to the water. The gain in hook up is huge.
Not sure about flatwater freestyle but for ripping turns mag pumps are the chit:Banane35:

Is hookup the only advantage, or is there added "felt power" as well? More acceleration?
I am guessing that more hookup really translates into more felt power.

I love ripping turns!
But my short hull does have real trouble staying hooked up in turns.
Sounds like I am about to spend some money.

I talked to a friend about this... Malone was back flipping a Q8 with a stock motor set up and was stabbing the nose. He made the comment that if he had a mag pump, he would make it further around and not stab the nose.

.02 cents :fing02:

I would love to have a mag pump... I went with the TBM pump cone with a mag prop. That's a close as I can come for minimal cost.

Hooks up like a mofo. Ski handles like it is on rails. The jet coming out the rear is allot tighter and cleaner in shape. I tried a 140mm mag in my ski but the impeller was too steep. I got a 14/19 in there now but have not tried it out yet. I like them

Matt, I do NOT own a MAG yet, key word-yet.

Let me put this in laymans terms,

u take a supercharged car to the drag strip with street tires and spin the whole track but still turn decent times ie 7.90 in the 1/8 w/a 2.9 60' mark time.

Now, the same night, jack the azz up and throw a pair of slicks under it-
6.90 1/8 mile w/a 2.3 60' time and your neck is real sore from the launch!

I wish you had the opportunity to ride cammit's stuff-that would tell you the whole story! MAGS are worth the money, but I agree-that is alot of money. The ONLY reason I don't have one yet is lack of money.

I tried the cheapo MAG and could not get it to work-I wasted enough money on different setups to have bought a used MAG and now regret that I wasted all the money I did. Granted my oem pump does a great job for what it is, but it's not a MAG.

We did a back to back test recently on a Flatwater 760 freestyle ski with total loss. We put a 140mm magnum on and two riders tested it, we then changed the pump for a stock one with a TBM pumpcone with a Hooker prop. Both riders only reported a marginal improvement with the magnum.

From my understanding the set back version is mainly a high speed improvement, a racers thing but to be honest I can't tell the difference although I haven't raced for years.

If you got the extra $$$, setback is the only way to go. I'm running a standard mag now, I can't wait for my new XS 148 setback mag.

It's money well spent, IMO

I think I am going to go the way of the TBM pump cone for price reasons. I have seen the ones CP watercraft does when they install the pump cone and port you stock pump looks great and I think would be a huge improvment over stock.

The Superjet pump does not have the problems that Kawasaki has. A stock 144 pump with an 85mm nozzle, deep Worx grate, and an impeller pitched just right is hard to beat until the water get really rough.
