Flatwater mag pump advantages?

I have a TBM with a cut back 13/16 solas swirl in my SJ ported 760. I am not impressed with that setup at all. I am probably going to change it out and run an 08' SJ prop without the TBM.
I run a 144mm 12 vien, Skat Mag in my Rev with a 14/19 prop and am very happy with the cositancy and speed that it hooks up in flat and or white water. It does NOT hook up as well as the 140 Skat mag I was running but it weighs about 4lbs less than the 140mm 12 vien.
The efficiency comes from how close the viens are to the back side of the prop as well as the multiple viens compressing and regulating the amount of water / air much better. Just my opinion.
I would like to try the XS pump. The skats are great but the XS seams like you get a little more for the $$$$ with the billet wear ring area and all. NICE BLING!!!

Good info, thanks. I also keep hearing of mixed results for the TBM cone.
I personally don't care for bling. I want performance.

I have seen chuck on here talking about the TBM pump cone and does say if you got the money to go with the mag pump do it but the TBM cone when setup right is like the poor mans mag.

I've tried the large-hub cone and impeller setup (not on my ski) and wasn't overly impressed.

Matt, you would like the TBM super pump cone if you are looking for more hook up in the surf. I bought one and had it for awhile and if I ran surf all the time I would have kept it. It really hooked up well.. too well for my taste on flat water. It wouldnt let the rear loose when i wanted it to. I tested it with a Skat swirl 12/17 cutback to the stator and pump nozzle was bored at 85mm.. i also had a big hub scat swirl to test with it, but never did because like i said it was too much hook up for me and I knew it would even have more with the C-75 impeller(Gils old one).

Now if I had a machine that was flatwater backflip capable then I would of probably kept it too...as the poor mans mag.

Here's the deal: My shortened hull + stock rideplate is really loose
I love the flickability of the short hull, but the rear end being so loose gets in the way.
I can cruise along, then flick the bars and be going sideways until the hull slows to a stop - aka a long ways.
The back end breaks lose in turns, unless I plant my weight all the way to the rear.
I think I can stand to gain "too much hook-up".

Since you only broke your shaft and not your pump, why not stick with your oem pump for now and just replace the shaft? Sounds like you were happy with your old setup so why spend the money?

Just out of interest, what hull is that? sounds like it handles like a 550 Kwak

Because it's a perfect opportunity for upgrade!

I would like better hookup. See my post right above yours.

I just purchased a (used) 140mm 12 Vane setback Skat-Trak Magnum pump. :woot:

It's getting shipped to Jetworks for inspection, assembly, and impeller choosing.

Think 140 will be enough?

Yes, my engine is puny enough to warrant a 140mm.
I know I'm going against the almighty bandwagon with this "race pump", but I happen to trust the guy that built my setup - more than free Internet forum advice.
