Are flow guards worth it? I have a 150mm set back pump with 144 rrp flip nozzle will I notice a benefit from installing a flow gard? Does it really help with flips and other tricks? Let me hear some feedback please.
I think he is referring to the composite housing that clamshells over the entire steer nozzle, not the coupler hose section banded in between the trim ring and steer nozzle like you are likely referring to. Either way, both are a benefit but the coupler on the trim ring is a must in my opinion, any of the above mentioned trims are totally worthless once the coupler blows off.Absolutely 100%, prevents water ”bouncing back” off the steering nozzle at large angles of deflection, and channels all available thrust in the direction wanted. I use a modified scream trim ring personally, but our group also use P&P and Pitch set ups to excellent effect.
NoI'm talking about the carbon fiber flow gard that goes over reduction nozzle. Does it reall help with aerial tricks?
You got a link to where I can get it?Ditch the RRP and get the non pro xmetal trim with coupler mod and that will help with what your looking to do

I have a eme roid and my pump sticks out pretty far past the short ride plate. I'm doing back flips now but wondering I'd this would help with air. I have never had issues with coupler seals.Im running the flow guard on my edge with he bpipe coupler mod on my ski. The bpipe coupler mod was a must and the flow guard is an improvement to that. Im not sure the Edge really requires a flow guard like an XFS or BF ski would since the pump is somewhat protected by the ride plate already. Here is what I found with the adding flow guard.
1) I havent had to replace to bpipe coupler since installing the Flowguard. My couplers were wearing out before this, now at the end of the season it still looks new.
2) I can run an OEering nozzle without breaking it. Before the Flow Guard I was breaking nozzles.
3) I would say it gives a 10-15% improvement to my pump under worse case scenario. There are times when the pump worked fine without it, I think it makes the pump all around more predictable.
Installing the flow guard on the Edge was a PITA. I had to cut it up to fit into the Hull then do Carbon fiber work to close up the steering cable channel. You wouldn't have to do this on a true BF ski because the pump extrudes itself from the back of the ski more.
I like it, it looks cool, if you have the extra $ and the time it works as good as any other $400 mod. Its not required but every little improvement adds up.
