650/X-2 Flywheel/Bendix lubrication?

Location

The oil pump in front does not oil the bendix or flywheel. Just pumps oil into the top o the carb. As long as it's working dint mess with it. If you have a stuck bendix ATF fluid works great. And that "cap" is not to put oil in if your wondering it's an inspection timing cap. Oil in the front cover will most likely ruin the stator and bendix.

You can soak the bendix in transmission fluid, but requires you remove the flywheel. You flywheel cover and plates should be water tight, and will almost never need to be lubricated.

Soak it in straight antifreeze, like the stuff that goes into your car radiators. dont get premixed stuff with water. STRAIGHT antifreeze. it breaks down rust. OR soar it in transmission fluid. either way i would clean it after the soak with a quality parts washer fluid. then soak with wd40.

I've always let the bendix soak in Mineral Spirits for a day or so, working the action every once in a while.

Take it out, let completely dry.

Then soak in any engine oil you can find (doesn't have to be 2 stroke oil) for a day or so again. Working the action as before.

Take it out, let it dry then reinstall.
