First thing to do is glass over the holes inside the engine compartment (under the Ebox) where the factory fills the foam. They put a ********ty sticker over it that leaks water within 3 months of being in the water!!!

Whats the best way, to prevent the foam from being waterlogged? I just got a slightly used 99 SJ, in great shape, but I want to make it a flatwater freestyle boat. I do not want to have to deal with water logged foam! Sounds like alot of work to fix!! I dont have footholds yet..

First off ive seen a stock superjet sink. All it had was a scupper. No footholds no foam removed. The scupper failed and the boat filled with water. With the stock sized tray with no footholds the foam int eh front and rear take up enough room to just barely make the rear tail of the ski stick like 4 inches out of the water. The thing will barely float as it is. You water log some foam or bore out some for footholds or remove from foam in front of gas tank it is going down. That being said Ive got an idea for weight saving and no water log foam problem. Im going to take a heavy duty atv tube and put it under the tray and gunwales. Then im going to mount it so the air fill is mounted through the transom with a nut holding it in place. Ill fill it so it takes up some room and then foam it. Once the foams in ill inflate it alil bit to like 4 or 5 psi. This will take care of water logged foam as well as weight. It wont pop and it will be mroe bouyant than the foam.

oh and im trying to think of a way to save it from sinking. I think you could rig something up with a small co2 tank from like a bb gun for a fail safe. Im still brainstorming an idea.

Hey, if you remove the foam from under the tray and then try to ride it, you will eventually have your feet crash right through the tray........ the foam is what reinforces the SMC that the tray is made up of........... remove it, and your reinforcement is gone....... same for foam under the footholds.

Whats the 5200? Some kind of epoxy? Just give me a name and where to buy!! I'm gonna seal up the fittings and holes  Do I need glass for the holes or will the 5200 work? What kind of glass should I buy?

3M 5200 Fast Cure is what you need. It's an adhesive caulk on steroids and it is intended for marine use.

Some Home Depot stores carry it. Some Walmart stores carry small tubes in their Marine section.
