Foot straps over turf?

I just got a DAKINE ProForm footstrap for my SN... Can I install the strap while keeping my turf in place? I am thinking of putting the strap towards the front of the tray... I don't want any leaks, but I don't really want to re-turf the tray. Is it possible to pull the turf back at all and then re-glue it? I found one thread that mentioned not drilling directly through the turf. I apologize if this is covered completely in a different thread.
Thanks,

I cut two small rectangles were the strap sits flush with the deck. For a front strap you can get buy with the "insert mounting option". Drill holes, pour in some epoxy, screw in the inserts (furniture style). That gives you something to screw the straps into.

Or just grab some wood screws and hack away.

i cut two little patches too. the strap will cover it up if you are that concerned about looks. i personally dont care what my ski looks like as long as it runs good.

I used a piece of tubing (~1/2" dia) and heated it up with my torch. I then used the hot tubing end to cut perfect circles out of my turf, then drill holes, and epoxy inserts in. Whatever you chose to do you should be fine. Just don't use drywall anchors:twak:

Drilling holes and not sealing them ( as in glassing them shut) will lead to water logged foam, period. There are several methods to deal with this, just search the forum some. I drilled and have just refoamed my ski because of it...

I used bonding fasteners. They're basically large perforated washers with a nut welded in the center. I cut holes in the turf, roughened up the deck surface, and epoxied the fasteners in place, making sure to completely coat the top of the fastener with a solid layer of epoxy. Over a season of surfriding with this setup and it's showing zero signs of weakening. I'm pretty sure the strap (or my ankle) would fail before the epoxy does.

I used the threaded inserts (sold as kits on here, from blowsion, or from mcmaster) and epoxied them in place.

Used a small nut-driver on a drill to cut perfect circles in the turf. Few crappy pics in my sig.

if you have some extra underpadding, i would just carefully peel the turf back. it will most likely ruin the underpadding. just install your inserts, screws, whatever way you plan on mounting them, then replace the chunk of underpadding.

i personally dont like the idea of drilling a scre through my tray. i rough up the tray, lay a small square of fiberglass over it with a whole cut out where the nut is and epoxy the whole square to the tray...theres more coverage than just epoxying the washer/insert alone.

heres some pics of one of the skis i put them on.

the acorn nuts are welded to the washers....you can aslo buy some similar ones from mcmaster but the ones i bought from them didnt have bottoms so when you tighten your footstrap down, the bolt would bottom out on your tray so you would have to be careful not to overtighten. i ended up not using them.
