Im getting ready to install footholds on my 08 sj. My 1st question is how far up in the tray. I believe I read 5" from the rear but wasn't sure if this applied to the 08. I also was wondering if 1qt of epoxy resin was enough and if 10oz E glass from US Composites was the correct glass.

the distance from the rear is personal preference. The further forward they are the bigger chance you're going to his the exhaust tube. I have my footholds all the way back.

your materials are fine.

It also depends on the footholds. Some are designed to curve around the back of the gunwale so you don't have any choice about how far forward to put them. XFTs are like that, for example.

One other thing - it feels very weird to have your feet that far back at first, especially on dry land! Don't freak out about putting them all the way at the back even if it feels totally wrong in the garage - that's where most people have them.

Thanks, installing enclosed footholds from waterdawg customz. Any opinions?

dont break your ankle or knee. just kidding but be carefull the first couple times you ride it takes a little to get used to getting out in a hurry. i put enclosures on my wammiltons rickters and love them. i also have them so far back i had to trim a half inch of the flash behind the hold. pics are here. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/76412-PING-PONG-BALLS-defoam-tray-widening-zero-SJ-sponsons-plus-more

I noticed you placed padding on the top of your enclosures, what was the purpose? I plan on using 26mm padding. Was one sheet enough for your ski? The finished product looks great. I was also thinking of putting a foot strap toward the front. How do you like the strap so far?

Pad everything! When you start to get big air and/or inverted, every part of the ski turns into a potential weapon. Espcially for your poor abused toes knocking around in the tray.

I put my rev's as close to the exhaust tube as I could get them. They are very long. It really is personal preferance so pick a spot and go for it.

when your looking at the ski from the side, eyeball the top of the exhaust tube where it goes thru the bulkhead. mark it on the side of the ski.
than eyeball the top of the exhaust tube where it exits out the rear of the ski. mark that too.

now get a long straight edge and line it up with your 2 marks. this will tell you approx where the tube is. then mark on the tray floor approx where the straight edge passes the bond line. that will tell you how far ahead you can put your holds.

hope that makes sense, thts how i did mine last winter, and i was able to miss the tube by about a 1/4 inch. worked great

I recently purchased a set of the REV's (thanks SJBrit!) and i'm confused how the enclosures go on, so defintely post pics of your install.
I'm putting them on a FX1, so they'll probably be all the way back simply because the tray is already small.
