foothold problems.. help a brotha out!!

guys im in a big pickle right now!!! i ordered a pair of waterdawg footholds for my superjet and installed the left one with little issues (these need a lot of cutting!)
than i cut out and de foamed the right side and found that the exhaust tube was hitting the front of the foothold .. i pretty much as far back as i can without cuting the foothold itself.. ive posted a picture of what its looking like.. any ideas on what i can do... the foothold goes in but it leaves a crack big enough to fit fingers under.. ive hear of ppl cuttin the toe (like a slit) of the foothold and glassing it over the pipe but im worried about heat issues since the foothold will be sitting directly over the foothold.. ive also heard of ppl takin a hammer to it and denting it but i dont like that idea..if you have any ideas lets hear them! thanks guy

I have the revs on both my SN's

I suggest not to dent the pipe, rather cut a little out of the tip of the foothold and then just close it up again, unless you have monster feet your toes will not get close enough to feel unconfortable with the little rise..

i would just stick some blue tape or something around the pipe where you are going to fiberglass. this way if you ever have to pull the tube it won't be epoxied to the foothold. thats what i did. $0.02

Where do you stand on the work....are the holds in place? Screwed in? etc.
Do you have pics of the progress?

Guess so. That was some timing there.

rough up the paint on the tray so it has good bite, and glass away. I agree with demolition x though on putting some tape over the exhaust tube first.

Yeh, I did the same and ripped the tube out to go for a side exhuast only setup, wont have it any other way. I went ahead recently and cut the tray out to defoam, man there was 20lbs of wet foam in there, everything leaks inside the tray, just a suggestion that you may want to consider and then add the foam to the whole thing at once. May save money in the long run.

Glass the hold back together before glassing the hold into the side.

Also, lay a couple layers of cloth on the tray extending up on the sides by and inch or so for a little reinforcement.

Good luck-Scott

Why glass the hold back together with it out of the ski? That's just more work, plus a risk of leaving a little gap between the exhaust tube and the hold which will weaken it, imo.
I'd leave the hold in the ski and glass over the hole at the same time that you're glassing the hold in.

That's the way I did mine. I used a good bit of expanding foam epoxy to hopefully fill the gaps.

But it might be a good idea to open up the turf to make sure there is no holes or broken spots.
