Footholds or footstraps?

Fox

God im so pants at skiing
Im in the process of glassing my hull on my 2006 rn so i thought id put in footholds or straps while the ski is out of the water. Can as many ppl as possible please tell me which option they have or will go for and the reason. What are the pros and cons of each?
Thanks for any replies.

if you are laid up and doing glass work why not put them in, you can also have foot straps and have a very versital tray.

they essentially will give you more real estate to work with

put them in

Get the holds, not the straps.

Holds are easy to find in a hurry, straps can keep you too locked in and break ankles.

the only ankle injuries I have had on any of my skis have been from holds (mostly sideways landings which tweak your ankle between the hold/gunwhale)

straps should be tight enough that your whole foot doesnt fit inside..that being said, I can shove my foot into my REV strap pretty far but it slips right out with zero effort

depends if your surfriding or riding flatwater...for surf straps are the only way (not set both in the back like footholds) ..if you want to do tricks on flatwater you will probably want to go with footholds..dont listen to the people that tell you straps are dangerous..obviously they have never used them..

I do a variety of flat water and surf riding. I have just holds. I have ridden boats with straps. I think I would like them if I rode with them more.
Just like anything else, you will like what you get used to.
I found I move around too much in the tray and found myself always standing on top of the straps instead of using them.

once you learn to ride with you feet in one position you can really concentrate on your technique because you always know how the ski will react because your feet are in the same place...if your moving your feet all over the place your ski handles differently depending on where you are standing..when my feet are in the straps i always know how my weight distribution/steering/throttle input will affect what im trying to do
