FootRocket build (FINALLY)

Today I rebuilt two mid shafts and my new Solas 144 mag pump (I have another mag pump in my Superjet). So, the problem I ran into on the pump build is when I attached the Raider reduction nozzle (with X-Metal trim) and noticed all the slop (my Superjet has a standard non trim reduction nozzle and fits well).

The Solas mag pump comes with this spacer ring deal which fits snuggly against the stator section.

Problem is the ring is super sloppy when you drop it into the Raider reduction nozzle.

I'm certain this setup would cause cavitation. I was thinking about putting some 3M 5200 in there, but I've done that once before on a pump and it was nearly impossible to separate the sections after that. So... anybody have some suggestions that would eliminate any potential cavitation because of the slop in the pump sections, but not permanently fuse the sections together?

Shouldn't cause cavitation being behind the impeller but you might lose pump pressure if it pushes water out of the seam around the reduction nozzle. Small bead of clear silicone would do the trick I would think (and not be too difficult to pry apart later).
 
Yes, cavitation occurs around the impeller, not after it. Put the locating dowels in the stator to center the nozzle and run it.
Another funny fact. With the two centering dowels in the stator they don't match up with the centering holes on the reduction nozzle. They are off, just enough... to not allow the two pieces to seat together. I grabbed a stock SJ reduction nozzle and the two pressed together no problems.

I guess the Raider nozzle is off just enough to cause these minor headaches. I'm gonna grab one of my carbide burrs and open up the alignment hole on the reduction nozzle just slightly so they'll connect.

I seal all my pump, mating surfaces with silicone. Just a quick bead and it's easy to pry apart and removes that variable if u have pump tuning questions.

OK... Got a few things put together this weekend and getting closer to dropping things into the FootRocket.

BTW, went to drop a woodruff key into the crank and bolt on the flywheel, but the woodruff key was too wide... Thought about it for a few minutes and figured it's cause the crank is a PHP 4mm light weight stroker crank and may have a narrower key slot. Anybody else see this before and can you just use any old woodruff key that you pick up at your local hardware store?

Be careful with woodruff keys. I bought a spare OEM to have handy cuz was told the hardware variety ones are softer. I know the key isn't to hold flywheel in place but I've seen plenty of flywheels slip and either sheer or partially sheer a key.

So what's this on your other build thread about making a hood liner for the Foot Rocket...?
I was just saying that the FootRocket is a more involved build. Here is a list of things I have to do on the FootRocket that I don't have to do on the Phantom.

1. Install pump shoe
2. Install scupper valve
3. Drill and tap motor mount plates
4. Install a Watcon hood seal
5. Clean epoxy out of all thread holes

Some of the list are minor things, but the point is I don't have to do them on the Phantom. It is a cleaner more tightly put together hull.

I understand. My Foot Rocket was built by Nick in Australia, so of your list, I had to do the pump shoe. Drilling and tapping the engine plates was my own choice...
But in the Phantom thread, you made it sound like you were making a hood liner for the Foot Rocket. Did I read that wrong?
 
Sanded, then used my Harbor Freight soda blaster to clean the crud out of all the hard to reach areas. Lastly, soaked in a mixture of Trisodium Phosphate and really hot water. BTW, I'm not sure what kind of reaction that stuff has with aluminum, but it turns it really dark grey. Lastly, hit it with a rattle can of flat black Rust-oleum. Not too bad for an amateur.

Spoke with Zack at PHP about the fitment issue with the woodruff key and the slot on the 4 mill lightened crank. He recommended a quick sand and it should fit, it did. So, I got a package from Jetski Solutions which included 2 rewired ignition packs and a rewired stator. It's the first time I've had a stator done by them and it turned or great.

Getting ready to throw my bendix in and noticed a ton of debris in the whole so cleaned it out with some WD-40

Then used my Cold Fusion flywheel holder tool, which is awesome, to torque down the flywheel to my best guess at 50 foot pounds (don't have a torque wrench with me here).

..Update?

Since i am having to do glass work on my FootRocket, I'm going to modify where the tank sits, not sure why they made those mounting platforms so long.
