Other Ford ranger: Two skis in bed or trailer?

Buying myself a ford ranger tomorrow. It's a regular cab longbed. I want to go down to oceanside one day with a buddy, so i'm wondering, can you put two skis in the back of one (750 and 550)? Maybe use a rack to lift them over the wheel wells? Or would it be better to just get a trailer?

the problem with getting a trailer, is i don't want to have to dish out $150 for the hitch and then another 400$ for a trailer.

The first picture is of Mark Gomez's truck Chevy Colorado, next to my 01' Ford ranger, both of us have 2 skis in the back, both of us have an airbag system that allows us to handle the weight. Mine is a Firestone load lifter system around $250, that is a huge part of being able to haul the weight.
The other pics are of my rack and now I made it out of aluminum. I also have a winch up front to hoist the skis up. My beach kart acts as a ramp and is housed on top of the whole sheee-bang once the skis are on.

This set-up made countless times riding this summer, everywhere from seattle WA to Oceanside CA on my west coast tour. along with the weight of a bunch of Monster Energy drinks this thing was LOADED!!! hah

its doable... and can be worthy

Old, but still ridin'!!!
Living in Cali, I'd definitely go with the skis in the bed of the truck. That 55 MPH "towing speed limit" sucks. If you do a rack like Tanner and Mark, you'll have plenty of room under the skis for gear, etc.
