Anyone that had both or either care to chime in on their experiences. Looking to buy a new ski hauler/work van and haven't been able to make up my mind. Ive done a fair amount of research on both so far and looking to buy one brand new.

Looking at The v6 turbo f150 motor vs the v6 turbo diesel mercedes

Either a long wheelbase short roof sprinter crew style or the medium roof transit crew style. I need the rear seats and side windows to be able to take parkways in NY

Gonna go on a limb and say the Turbo diesel Mercedes might be the better bet. They have been building those things since the 70's/80's. Yes, this a newer generation. but for the most part bulletproof.

I drove a sprinter for work. It didn't have much power. Well to me it didn't seem like they do vs the Chevy vans loaded with about the same tools. They are nice to be able to stand up in the back of them. But really suck in a wind storm.

Definately looking for mpg vs having power. The diesel ford and chevy vans have much larger v8 turbo engines. i have driven them for work also and agree about the wind pushing them around, but i guess that's to be expected with any tall truck.

Yeah just goes with it. Idk if the sprinter is any taller or narrower then the other two.

The sprinter VB body was an inline 5 cylinder. The 08 and up VB are the v6.
Pretty solid engine/van. In terms of repairs, not to much engine wise or trans/diff.... Down the road with age, Turbo hose or resonator split, easy fix you can do yourself, usually it's one or the other. Glow plugs when they set a dtc. We usually do all 6 and the module at one time so the customer keep coming every week fir one more. They can become stuck and break off in the head but we have tools to extract them in the car.. not too big a deal.. on the more odd side not so common, some intake swirl valves, requires new intake.. brakes and rotors/sensor, when needed, they have really thick pads. More do it yourself work.. the Nag Trany is a good one....

My uncle travels across the country for work, has owned a few different cargo vans. He owned the Ford transit for a couple years and hated it. Was there heaviest duty model, yet had to put heavier springs under the rear to handle safety when loaded, engine had crap for power etc. His current van is the Ram Promaster, very similar to the sprinter van, he love this van, way better then the Ford in every way.

If the v6 in the sprinter is the same as in the glks and other diesel mercedes, my mercedes buddy suggested being careful of them. Some stuff like nox sensors cant be done without software updates, which drives me nuts that I cant work on it myself. Other than that those things seem pretty tough, and theres tons of them out there so they must be doing something right.

Jimmy have you looked into the Nissan NV? Decent looking in real life. Quigly 4x4 makes a kit for em too.
