not mine personally, but forged can still break. they need time to warm up and expand to their proper bore clearance, and thats when it is easiest to break them. but also when they break they wont shatter into a ton of pieces like cast ones. my last piston failure was a forged that chunked up the head and piston but it didnt break.
Doubtful, pistons were properly clearanced and there's no evidence of anything going through the motor. It was just completely rebuilt, including all new bearings on crank.
Is this a stroker motor?? Some pistons need the skirts clearanced prior to installation especially in strokers. Many oversized BB pistons like the CR 500 pistons and even the dasa i have had to trim the skirts to clear the crank and cases.
it looks like it ran for quite some time after what ever happened started to happen. at that point its pretty hard to determine what exactly first happened since so much more damage soon followed. on a million dollar motor, as soon as you hear anything strange, shut it off and rip it apart. dont keep it running at all. ask me how i know.............. skirts usually break off from excessive clearance/piston slap but not in your case
There were no strange noises or anything. I have had the head off three times before that in the 7 hours that are on it since rebuild and checked compression three times and all was good. I was just putzing along when I heard when I heard the strange noise and the motor died at the same time. I knew something was terribly wrong, swam it to shore, loaded it up, went home and tore it down.
customer service at dasa/kyle is awesome. they will/are going to fix it for less than anybody else would since its their motor. everybody else will tell you they'll fix it for less and then rake you over the coals. ask me how i know................
