FP Type 4 - bottom end??

ANT

Just ride
Considering if both ski's are set up the same with the pipe the only difference, the type 4 will make noticeably more power than the b-pipe especially off idle. The only difference is you may change a coupler and o-ring once a season or more. The lord mounts have to be aligned or you will be replacing couplers as fast as you burn gas. You indefinetly should run a girdled head, the dry pipe can cause the cylinder to crack if you don't. Also if your running pump gas it's recommended you don't run anything smaller than 37cc domes on a non-ported 701, the smaller domes with pump gas are susceptible pinging and detonation because of the dry pipe. With the b-pipe you can run up to 35cc domes on a non-ported 701, and you don't absolutely have to run a girdled head. The only reason you'd have to change a coupler on the b-pipe is if it overheated or rotted out from being old.

This thread to me is extremely interesting. I hope it doesn't die and more people can chime in.

I agree - and I hope someone gets interested in it enough to buy the pipe from me - no regrets on the pipe, just wanting to go the B-pipe route on my sons boat.

So what do you say - anyone interested in a good condition Type 4 Factory Dry Pipe?? I think I asked $450 in another posting but am now asking $400, might be willing to come a bit more for a reasonable offer, just need to get it gone.

Ive been messing with a type for a while now. I really need a girdled head b/c im running a ported 701 with the only top 2 lord mounts in use, the other is broke.

All i can say is the pipe has braapp. I did put a 150 main in the stinger, did some changes at the time so couldnt tell much of a difference also ski was running hot and messed a lot with cooling finally did dual cooling.

Does running a type for luke warm, say in cold water affect performance much? I may need a restrictor for spring riding if so.

Ive really never had a problem with couplers nor have a taken much care when installing it and I ride hard. I replace it every year due to working on the ski or changing hulls anyways. No O rings, just align and tighten 2 nice clamps. Im still tweaking so any other opinions ideas keep em coming. Im definately not switching to water injection but I think a new head with higher compression versus a 150 psi stocker will be real nice.

added a pic, stock head is now on because greater head was broke so never got to try it.

135m 120p 2.3 already sent you a pm, but if anyone else wants to know I think this is what worked last, tried so many things dont remember what I finally came up with.

the blue type 4 he has ( i think it is my old one from x2ryder) has a mikuni main jet in the water inlet to the stinger.

Can you embelish on this? I don't really know what you mean. Is this what yamanube is talking about?

I installed my FP type 4 pipe midway through the season along with an Riva girdled head and water injection. I def noticed some gains, but I don't think it was ever close to its potential. I never rejetted the carbs either, but I'm determined to get it running at its full potential this year.

I am pretty sure he is talking about putting a carb jet in the fitting nearest the end of your stinger. don't know off hand what size jet though.

Yeah how does this work?

I ordered the new jets at the end of the season last year, and I just found them in my desk. Now I don't remember where I ordered them from or what they are.

The part #'s are Larger one: N102-221-140
smaller one: N100.606-75

Did I get the right ones?

I don't mean to threadjack but I figure this is just turning into an informational thread for the dry pipe. Thanks for the help!
