Anyone know any good, trouble and BS free, video editing apps for the PC? I have windows 7 and windows movie maker still wont work with .mp4 format. GroPro videos btw.

Try Windows Movie Maker 2.6. While advanced users are likely using a more sophisticated video editing program, there’s no denying that Movie Maker is an excellent, full-featured option for the average home user.

I use movie maker for all of my videos. Easy and free. My videos are also mp4, although from a contour. I have the latest version of movie maker from windows live.

Downloading 2.6 now.

I don't see my version number, but what I had was...

Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3505.0912)

It never seemed to work.

My windows media player wont play them either. I've been using VLC media player.

I forget what format my new sony camcorder is, but neither windows media player nor VLC media player will play the files. It's pretty frustrating.

2.6 is downloaded and running. What am i doing wrong here...

The file C:\Users\Michael\Desktop\13-04-13 Ft Desoto\GOPR0748.MP4 is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

Your Sony camcorder might have come with software called PMB. Install that. Not full video editing but you can trim the ends off of clips.

If all else fails you can always upload the clips to Youtube then go to Youtube.com/editor It's a bit slow, and you can do some basic slicing and dicing. The upside is Youtube will handle dang near any video format.

I never liked using windows movie maker. I been using VideoPad video editor.
It has a 14 day free trial but lets you reinstall as free version when its up.
You lose a couple features with free version but its still pretty good for quick videos.
I use it for my gopro 2.7k footage and it doesnt lose any quality in the process.
Check it out if you get a chance, i like it.
