I must say that I am torn. I am really proud that I raised $1100 for charity this year for a cause I believe in. I had a lot of fun and I think most everybody else did too (minus a few junkies missing the surf). We have grown alot... (About 75 skis total this year) about 30 first year, 50 second year....I think I made the raffle/cookout go pretty quickly this year...(teacher skills). Unfortunately, we had no surf this year (beyond my control) and the beach got trashed from a bad storm (beyond my control)
I am up in the air about what I want to do next year.
WAVERAVE was a great time this year, had a HUGE turnout again and really no sponsors (except free energy drink). Being able to camp there is a great thing. It was laid back, campfires and beer at night and good riding during the day.
DAYTONA 2008: On the other hand, I had a blast at Daytona every year and am still trying to make it to this one and everyone afterwords. It's like the World Finals of Freeride. Everybody is there and it's insane and super fun. You get to ride with the pros. (THERE IS NO OTHER XTREME SPORT WHERE YOU GET TO DO THAT!!!) big plus!!!!!! I got to ride with Joe Kenney, Pierre, Ross, Taylor, Caker, Lustic, Stoyer, Malone, Jr., Ratti, etc etc... all going big and flippin 30 feet in the air right next to me! (Can you imagine what that's like for a young kid just starting out in our sport???)
Next year, for RockNRide they are talking about us getting permits and such (due to growth) ... depending on the cost, I may cut out a lot of the other stuff and scale it down a little to avoid a permit. We also got harrassed at the ramps this year, (first time EVER!) ....we will see. We have a little freeride every Saturday in Cleveland and on Surf Days...the RockNRide is like our yearly blow out. (Our group is growing every year!)
Basically, I like all the different variety in every freeride I have been too. A couple people having beers and chillin instead of riding, or some sponsors, or a crowd, or no surf, or sick surf will never deter my fun.
I'll hit EVERY ride I can.
All the cool people from around the country that I have met and now call friends ALWAYS makes it worth it...
I have NEVER gone home disappointed. Keep em coming....
(final thought: If your coming to a ride to find things to beitch about...stay home. This is all in good fun and I don't think anybody has ever made a dime off of a freeride in the last 6 years.)
