Freestyle project hull

Good day at the lake...... Very positive feedback from a member of the Japanese freestyle team who is over here building a freestyle ski for the Flamingo team.
He said the hull handles very well but needs more steering movement and up tilt on the nozzle. Also the footholds could be 40 or 50mm forward and the pole a bit shorter for someone of his height ( around 5' 6'' I guess) but ok for someone taller.
The foot holds are installed after the hull is made for this reason.
He commented that he would like to try a cart tank in the normal place to put the C of G forward a bit.
Having ridden it for 40 mins he was surprised it only had a slightly modded 701 motor fitted!

I have total loss on the way from Airtime products in the UK and am thinking about over boring to 760 cc.

I figure adding HP in stages will really show what works in the hull , Rather that dropping in 200 HP right away!

Yeah great work nick!!!

Have you weighed the ski yet?

I have not weighed the ski lately and I have changed the pole bracket to a stainless one, Pole pad ,added some layup to the pole area inside, also turf.
It will be interesting to see what its all up ready to ride weight is now.
It was 92.5 kgs before.
I will weigh it tomorrow!

I really like that you are open to feedback and willing to share possible issues with everyone. I have to imagine that with the cost involved in making changes it's probably pretty common to design a new hull and have to go right into production without really getting to test it and rework it. Obviously his recommendations do not sound like major hull mods but I still like that you are striving to get it better. Your work is very impressive. Great job!

im guessing thats without a motor?:dunce: if my math skills are correct thats about 204 lbs! Also what kind of turf is that? looks cool! Any progress on producing hulls\kits for people?

I would think Nick's comment about "ready to ride weight of 92.5 kgs" was with the motor.
Yes that is about 204 lbs.

Yes the girls were holding it over their heads that day. Not big girls either, 1 girl only weighs 39 kilos and they were holding it on their own..
The bare hull with hood weighed about 19.5 kilos or just under 43lbs to you guys.
I think it had a couple of weak areas around the pole bracket but they have been fixed now and Nick knows where to stiffen and strenghten it on production hulls. The rest of the hull was perfect.
Many people have ridden it and it has had a good hammering so some small problems were to be expected as it was made super lightweight but very few considering it's a new design.
I am suprised at how strong it is but a lot of thought went into it, not just lots of layers of cloth everywhere and Nick only used epoxy and woven cloth.
Nick and I are not big but the 2 of us can lift it on and off his trailer quite easily.
The low weight does make it feel like the engine has more power than it really has.
I love Epoxy, lol

I may be pitching in for one of these. I was first thinking BOB but I have doubts about its hood riding ability. Your ski looks hood rideable and it's lighter. The biggest problem is shipping to Texas. Probably expensive. I wonder about air freight? How bout a free 12 vein pump to seal the deal? LOL

That was including the motor! I have added some layup to the inside of the centre of the hood, Removed the bond flange at the front strengthened inside at the front to compensate for not having a bond flange, Added layup in the pole bracket area together with a bulkhead in the front level with the rear edge of the pole bracket, Changed the pole bracket to a stainless one as my super light aluminium bracket I made was not quite up to it, Fitted a heavier duty pole pad as the ski is good for hood tricks and it was a bit too thin, Added the rest of the turf and paint!

It now weighs in at 99.8 kgs! ready to ride but with only a splash of fuel!

I am very happy with that as my target was 100kgs, A little bit of weight could be saved here and there by redesigning brackets etc.

The Air Time Products total loss arrives soon, also my Japanese friend said the prop needs re-pitching a little as it is a bit too tall.
I will report on the results.

We are starting the second hull next week with all the alterations integrated into the layup schedule.

Exactly,

Many people don't realize this until it is put in front of them directly.

The lighter and smaller a water craft is, be it a boat or jetski, the more significant weight changes become.

The lighter the complete package is overall, it allows weight to be positioned where it NEEDS to be, or where it makes the best impact, rather than just having to deal with the weight as it exists.

...course the other side of the coin is, regardless of the weight, the more power you have, the more you have....

I REALLY Like the looks of this hull. Absolutely incredible. If this holds up you better get ready for some production bro.. VERY nice work! I would love to take this thing for a test ride and see if it handles as good as it looks like it would.
