I bought a set or 2 of ski molds from a guy. I have some background with composites, but have never made a ski before.- and never did gel coat like this from the inside. I have worked a lot on a prototype composite thing i can't talk about (NDA's) but it has taught me a lot about the process and vacuum bagging.
This will not be a quick build- I am making the ski from scratch.
I did one hood top yesterday and quickly realized how much gel coat is needed- lots.
The first version was very light on the gel coat causing some ugliness.
I am just doing hand layups right now (my vacuum bag material has't shown up from my order 2 weeks ago).
These are 2 different hoods- the nasty one out of the mould is junk- the one still in the mold will get more work on it tomorrow.
Yes I am doing glass versions right now- carbon is expensive- very expensive. If the hood goes well tomorrow- I will start the bottom hull.
