Check your ground cable, maybe even replace it. Also check the ground (black wire) going from your stator to your ebox.

Wow thanks wanderer1 that is a great write up. So it looks like i am going to have an issue though. The wires coming from the stator go straight to the Ebox there are no connecters in the middle, which really makes this suck. I will do my best and get an OHM meter. I have a buddy who is an electrical guru and will hook up with him before taking this turd in and letting someone else tear into it for $80 an hour.

Quinc, The ground cable is newer, however, it did have some corrosion on it. I will check that too.

Have you pulled out the stator and looked at it? The ground wire might be broken and making an intermittent connection. You can also run another ground cable directly from a bolt on your engine to your ebox to rule that out.

Good time to go to quick connectors. I have extra housings you would need to get some pins. Cover shipping and I'll send you a male/female set. PM your number and I'll send you a pic installed

I just had the motor rebuilt by Art at JEtworks and he did not mention anything about the stator looking bad. So we used the original one.

Wanderer1 pm'd :)
