2015 ECFR Stab off.

The 2nd annual ECFR Stab off competition went down like the Titanic (literally), yesterday.

We started out with 7 competitors but Dyno dropped out early with a lingering injury (He is very old).
And, Cayleen the Badass opted out because she got into a knock down drag out brawl the night before.

That left us with 5 competitors:
1. Young Buck Shane on the 650 powered JS550.
2. Dylan (Superjet)
3. Bad Brad (FX1)
4. Andrew (Superjet)

5. And, the reigning Stab off champion "Stabbing Stephen" (Dual bilged Superjet).

The Stab Off competition is a 2 minute routine judged on trick count, execution, and amplitude.

Rodney Dangerfield and I judged.

The competitors drew numbers out of a hat to determine their running order.

The defending champion, Stabbing Stephen went first. He opened his routine with his signature deep ass stab, and rode out cleanly. He then circled back for sub # 2 and again sunk it deep. He bubbled up to the surface, but toppled over, drowning the motor. Despite adding a 2nd bilge pump, the boat had taken on a significant amount of water... the ski appeared to be sinking.

He couldn't get the motor lit, and time ran out.

Stabbing Stephen swims his drowned jet back to shore. Fail.

Dylan performing 2nd, had a strong run going... but then like Stephen, killed his motor with a big gulp of water.

Andrew performed a solid routine filled with deep straight in subs. But, midway though...took a handlebar to the forehead. Dazed and confused he pressed on.

Next up was Bad Brad, on the mighty FX1. He opened with a deep sub, sending a towering plume high into the air. It may have even struck a low flying bird. The crowd on the beach ooed and Ahhh'd with approval. His bilges appeared to have malfunctioned and he went wide out, eating up precious time, in a futile attempt to get the stock bilge to empty the water. With too much water still in the hull, he went for deep stab #2 and came up off balance, tipping to the carb side, killing the motor.

The attrition rate was alarming. It looked like the invasion on the beach at Normandy, during WWII. Bodies and destroyed machines floating in the water. The remaining competitors did not flinch, though.

Young buck Shane went out on the 550 hulled 650 and clicked off a solid routine. Trick count was high, but a few costly bobbles hurt his score.

The final scores were quickly tallied up and the results were....a 3 way tie between Stabbing Stephen, Young Buck Shane and Andrew. This would require a 1 minute death match to eventually decide the winner.

However, riders were on the beach frantically trying to start drowned motors. Plugs were pulled. Geysers of water were shooting up in the air like a water park. Stabbing Stephen eventually got his motor lit... but it made a horrible metallic crunching sound. Water ingestion had taken something out. "MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!"

That left 2 remaining competitors to fight it out for the overall win.

Andrew went first and had a good routine. 1 minute. His strategy was to do shallow stabs to ensure that he would ride them out cleanly, and get a high trick count. It was a brilliant tactical move and the judges awarded him with high 9's.

But, there was one final routine to be run.
Young buck Shane then took to the water and lit the mighty 650 off. This is one clean 550 hull. Despite his youth, he has a steely eyed confidence about him. Think young Clint Eastwood.

He opened up with some really deep subs. He was on fire. But, he had few costly bobbles. With time running out.... he threw all of his cards on the table and went for a massive, "Hail Mary", supersub. He went DEEEEEP! The water went calm. When would he surface? Would he surface? The crowd went silent waiting for what seemed like an eternity.

And, then he surfaced.... like a baby whale breaching. But... he fell over!!!! The crowd let out a huge collective gasp.

Back at the beach, the judges scores were tallied and the results would be posted.

Meanwhile...Stabbing Stephen toredown his top and and muttered some really bad words. Mothers covered their children's ears.

The results were in. The hard fought win went to Andrew. He narrowly squeaked by winning by a mere 1/10th of a point! Had Young buck Shane not bobbled on that last sub, there may well have been a different outcome.

Andrew, the proud victor, humbly accepted his award.

Over in the corner, the defeated Champion, Stabbing Stephen... angrily muttered something about a rematch next year. "I'll have a scupper and 17 bilge pumps".

LaKeSiDe engine swamping competition! A Fantastic write up for a fierce competition. though I went out early with engine h20 over consumption Id like to describe this experience with my riders perspective it was similar to something like this
5 great friends with great big egos all lined up to take a simotanous punch in the balls followed by a splash to the face
The trophy and prize money was a seductive incentive that had us all Risk it to get the buscuit but what I didn't know is the winner got to take home the trophy girl As shown by Andrew

It was an action packed battle to the death, eveyone went down fighting! Every single competitor was a force to be reckoned with and totally worthy of claiming the title! Next years Stab Off is going to be insane!! And yes @Aquaholic 701 the trophy girl did (reluctantly) come home with me haha!
