Front sponsons 2000 RN Superjet

Hello, I want to install front sponsons on my 2000 RN Superjet. I really only ride in the surf except to get in and out of the inlet. I don't race the ski but we often have to ride several miles in rough water to find an open beach. I am looking at both the Tubbie Destroyer and the Pro Watercraft sponsons. The Pro Watercraft sponsons are almost half the price, but I only have seen them on smooth water in a lake. Does anyone have experience with either of these sponsons in rough water, or a suggestion for a different brand? Thank you, Griggsmars

Rough water is where tubbies shine. As far as price goes, prowatercraft is not really the "budget" option anymore since they've raised the prices and absolutely hose you on shipping costs, so now they are nearly as much as the blowsion. Prowatercraft is super easy to install as they conform to the hull really well where the blowsion ones take some negotiation. On the other hand, destroyers only require 3 bolts per side and many would argue a better surface finish. The instructions are pretty annoying and unclear for prowatercraft also as if they were written by a 6-year-old. You're supposed to mount them "almost flush" to the bottom of the hull and ~34 inches from the rear (or whatever it is for old style superjet), like okay, what exactly does that mean? Basically forces you to watch extra videos on them and to make a phone call to prowatercraft to determine what is best for your type of riding. Whichever way you go, though, you won't be disappointed, it'll feel like a new ski.

I have prowatercraft on my RN, I haven’t noticed any times when they have bothered me. Surf or FW they have felt like an improvement

Sounds great, I hope the directions are not as bad as Jhucke says

Seriously look at the instruction sheet on the prowatercraft website, it's kind of ridiculous if you ask me, lol. Also I have tubbies on an old style hull and it made the world of difference in handling, superjets don't turn at all without them. Will be running prowatercraft this year on my '14.

I'm leaning towards the Tubbies. Blowsion has them for $395 but I saw them on Amazon for $335 and free shipping. It was the same part # 02-01-013 but Amazon does not say if these Tubbies are compatible with my 2000 Superjet

One little bump and the destroyers can crack. Pro watercraft does not. Something to consider. I'm real happy with pwr on my 03, definitely helps in surf and turning around a course. Install is pretty self explanatory, slight step off the bottom, about as far fwd as possible

Hmmm that could be a problem, I am in shallow water a lot. And since I ordered the Tubbies yesterday, looks like I will have to make them work. I will also reach out to Tom21 and check out what he has. Thanks for all the feedback and I'll let you know how they work next week.

Yeah I should have said the install is a piece of cake, but for how much they stress the importance of positioning, the measurements are not clear.

I installed the Tubbies the other day and went for a test ride Sunday, but ran into a problem. After sitting all winter, my steering cable was really tight and took a good amount of force to turn it. I tried lubing both ends, but did not help. I took a ride in the ocean trying to get a feel of the sponsons but the steering cable took a crap and I could only turn to the left and had very little steering to the right. So I obviously could not push the ski and do a true test. I was sure I snapped the cable, but when I got home it was still intact. I'm not sure if its bulging somewhere but, I am going to replace the cable anyway but need advise on that also. I was looking at the Blowsion steering cable, but it seems like its more work than its worth. Should I go OEM, WSM, Blowsion ? Thanks

ive broken tom21 sponsons - they are a very thin layer of fiberglass filled with 2 part foam. Also the left and right sponsons were not identical they were trimmed differently? can't remember the exact fitment issue ,but they were off.

I tested destroyers vs Pro Watercraft for SXR. Went with pro watercraft. They worked really well with my setup. Got crashed into pretty hard in practice and the sponson(and the hull) broke. Chris gave me a replacement for free.

For my 2005 and 2016 superjets I went with destroyers for both racing and freeride. they scrub a tiny bit of speed but I like how they enter corners. installation was easy and they would be easy to remove if I ever wanted to. the quality is excellent but a little more spendy than the prowatercraft were at the time. don't know what prices are nowadays
