Fuel filters

FX/1, I rebuilt my dual 38 Mikuni carbs recently it ran great for a few times out but the ski started giving me issues again I made in back from the ocean and noticed that the filter has crap in it again. I cleaned the tank out so Thant’s clean. Question is there any filter or screen in the black tube that goes in the tank.9783A217-85B6-4B34-A0BA-CCD13FCF4B88.jpegB93D3B66-CA53-40E0-849D-8977405F36D2.jpegB207DFB6-C8BE-42E2-8DD3-6876162E2767.jpeg

What is it doing when its not running right? Get a gallon of chem dip, strip your carbs down and let them soak for an hour in the chem dip. Then blow them out with compressed air. Then dip them again. Then clean with carb cleaner. Or if you have an ultrasonic cleaner.

When it wasn’t running right it was rough and low on power then smooth and all the power upon inspection at home I saw the poop in the filters I will clean the carbs again and clean out my VP gas jugs and start fresh

It could also be from the gas station you are getting your fuel from. You could try attaching a filter to a funnel when you put the gas in your ski. We have all seen the belly button lint in the fuel pump filter. Where the hell does that come from? It might also be a good idea to verify that the gas you are getting doesn't have water in it. Let your gas can sit for a day after you fill it and use a flashlight to see if there is a puddle of water at the bottom.

TURBO JET: What Quinc said. I am sure that you saw this carb screen right? TOBY told me to check it and it was my only problem. I blew it clean with carb cleaner. It is under the Mikuni cover on the pump side of the carb.

If you're running the original fuel lines that came with the ski then I'm going to bet those are your problem. The FX was built before they introduced ethanol into the fuel. The ethanol will eat those lines up like mad leaving your fuel black or discolorred. Seadoo used the old gray Tempo lines and would deteriorate in a way that would fill the in carb filters with a type of fiberous material. Make sure your fuel is ethanol free, it doesn't matter if the octane is 91+, most stations now still add up to 15% ethanol. I had to research the stations local to me for weeks only to find that Shell 91 was the only totally free from ethanol higher octane fuel. Most stations didn't even post it on the pumps that their above 89 was still 10% blended ethanol. Petro Canada boasts an "ultra 94" with no indication of ethanol but it's clearly detailed on their website it's an ethanol blend, I think it was a higher concentration too if memory serves.

I still have the black tubes in the tank in my FX-1 and neither have filters. I replaced all the other lines like Turbo Jet did. Is there a better black tube?
