Fuel in Crankcase

My highest use on any forum is to ask the stupid questions.
This post displays my stupid actions so that others may learn.

I am not sure of the cause, but my guess is the answer is found in @JC-SuperJet 's post below.
Over the two years which we haven't ridden the 550sx, the ambient temperature in the Delta can be over 100F in the Summer.
Most likely gas expanded in the fuel tank which was then forced into the carb probably from the intake line or possibly even from the return line through the carb into the crankcase.

I tried to start the ski yesterday and noticed fuel was dripping from the carb area somewhere. I took off the pulse line, then ran the starter and it puked out fuel pulsing. So, I took out the spark plugs -- and have you ever sunk a ski and then took the spark plugs out to get water out of the engine? -- well it was like that but it was shooting atomized clouds of fuel straight up.

Any suggestions on how to clear the crankcase of fuel?

I am afraid that when I get the engine running I will blow up the water box, which likely has fuel or fuel vapor in it.

Replace the needle and seat. check your tank pressure relief valve when it hot out fuel expands. I don’t even run a valve just a long hose coiled up or up and down the handle pole. I had 2 cold fusion tanks split due the heat.

You can lean the ski hard left so the carbs are on the bottom and crank it throttle wide open gas should run out. Be very careful if the plugs are out as spark causes a fire I found this out the hard way after sinking my ski cranking it upside down with the plugs out. That was not and good day.

BK, did you forget your unwanted "ignition" episode? :p

The Starter can be an Ignition Source too...

Maybe safer to tilt ski over, let drain and then let the rest evaporate with the Spark Plugs Out. Can even pull the Cylinder Head to vent.
Think you got me confused with ................... Oh crap, brain fart........ MCDog's old Neighbor!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fit, cannot think of his name, but I have never laughed so hard in my life. I did have a similar incident with a 550 and and X2. But it was from gas spilled in the engine bay and jumper cables.

I keep a 12" piece of fuel line in my engine bay now. I run the starter with the stop button held down to prime the carbs/fuel lines. Then suck up a little gas out of the tank and spit it in the to carb. That will give me a weekend of easy starts. Normally have to do it again after a week or so of sitting.

Turn the ski upside down to drain.

Then spun the engine with the pulse line off and the spark plugs out to puke out any remaining fuel.

I replaced the needle and the spring.
I didn't see how to replace the seat.

I don't believe it is leaking fuel past the needle and I have only a 1/4 tank fuel and the fuel cap is only lightly place on the fuel fill to let expanding gas escape.

The ski runs on the stand, and runs well at WOT, but from idle to WOT if I don't feather it up to WOT it drops and dies.

The carb is a Kehin CDKII with a Hi and a Lo screw. What screw should be adjusted how to cure this?

If you have it running, then your issue of crankcase filling up is just and over pressure issue. Leave the fuel cap loose during storage.

As far as tuning issues. Find the the tuning thread in tech faq and follow those. It is the same for a Mikuni or Keihin.

@JC-SuperJet I bought the pump rebuild kit. I bought the special torx socket. I even bought the special Mikuni multitip screwdriver which I really like.

I took the pump apart before and rebuilt it. I will take it apart again to see if I rebuilt it right.

Any link to the carb tuning thread would be appreciated. I am going through the Tech FAQ subforum now and still haven't found it.
