Fuel pump question

I'm building an alum. Jet boat using a super jet 701 as my power plant. I put the fuel tank (8 gal) in the back 1.5 feet behind but level with the motor. The problem is when I floor it from a stop, after three seconds it dies? So I hooked up a 1 gal tank in front and above the motor and it ran awesome. Also I took the return line out of the 1 gal tank and saw there was no gas flowing back in? Does the fuel pump that runs off the crank pressure have enough power to push the fuel or do I have a problem the fuel pump itself? Any comments are appreciated thanks

What's you carb setup? Single carb or Dual? External fuel pump? Etc. give us as many details as possible and we'll be able to help you better.

Also post pics.

Check the return on the carb an make sure it isn't clogged. Blow air through your return line too. I've had a ski sputter out like that when the return was clogged on a set of dual 38's.

ok thanks. i talked with my local jet ski shop (wmf) and i think when i was building the fuel tank i set the mesh baffle thing to low and its starving the carb at wide open I'm gonna run it tomorrow on the 1 gal tank to check if all is still well but the bummer is to get to the rear tank i have to pull up all my hydro turf :[ bummer. ill take some pics and let you know whats up. thanks for the help

I've done that as well. The beginning of this season. I made my own dual pickup out of a longer couch tank pickup. Needed two for dual fuel pumps.

I switched to a single and pushed the pickup down on accident when I reinstalled. It would run for about a minute then bog and starve for fuel. Took me a couple tries to get that one figured out.

Thanks, I'm gonna order the new turf then I'll tear it apart to see what's up. No go on the photos to windy and cold. Tomorrow it's gonna be 50 so I'll run it then
