fuel switch

Im thinking about just getting rid of the fuel switch on the sj, i really cant see the point i would rather have put the bildge there. Can i just get rid of it and cap off the res fitting on the tank?

Why the F*** would you get rid of your reserve??? Sorry guys, but I think this a stupid idea. I know lots of guys have done it but I can't understand why. I see racers running dual carbs, that use the res to feed the other carb so the rear carb does not run lean, but otherwise I don't see the bennifit.

Just drill another hole if you want to run the bilge. When you run out of gas you'll be thinking "Why the F did I get rid of the res?" And no one say anthing about weight cause a 2oz switch aint conna change a thing.

Sorry for the rant, but I think is a dumb idea. Seriously, if there is some bennifit, someone clue me in.

I know the bilge fittings shoot out of the tray at 45deg, but when they slow down some will get in the tray, along with gas and oil thats in the bottom of the ski, and then you have a slippery mat.

Just my opinion.

It is easy to tell when the gas is getting low, if you ride in the surf and you get a little spudder go in and fuel up. If you go on long rides maybe this wouldn't be for you.

Im never far from gas nor have i ever run out so i have never had to use the reserve so i cant see the point its just taking up space.

A 1 1/2 in by 1 1/2 in piece is taking up space? Just my opinion, as stated. If you don't think you need it then take it out.
I don't usually need my helmet, but that one time that I do, Ill be glad I'm wearing it.

This is just something to keep in mind:

Agreed - can't see the point of getting rid of insurance! Plenty of other places to put a bilge outlet too. I'm with LBE on this one.

I do think dumping your bilge into your tray is stupid tho, all the gas and greasy messy poo poo

I don't have oil or gas in my engine compartment, if you do then you have problems. I don't empty my bildge into my tray, when the stream starts getting low I shut it off. Let the scupper do the work anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. Why wouldn't you want a reserve...

Maybe some people just like to swim.

I don't think someone would be naive enough to block off the reserve.... whats the point of having that extra gal (+/-) and not using it? If you are going to eliminate the switch run off the reserve and block the on/main line.

Just keep in mind that when you're out of gas you're out of gas. But that shouldn't be an issue on a SU because how often are you riding far and constent enough for it to creep up on you.... just use common sense and check the level when you beach or take breaks.

COme on, nobody on an octane has a switch. Their Frucked just as much as anyone else without a selector ;)

edit, I also thought of adding a quick disconnect to my fuel line, and having it readily available to unhook from the "on" line and stick it onto the reserve pick up. that way I could still have a reserve, without spending money on an expensive switch

disconnecting your fuel switch is retarded. I really don't get it.

Ok, I'll ammend that statment.....if your swtich isn't broken, removing it is retarded. I admit, I wouldn't replace one either.

And a quick disconnect would mean you'd be required to remove your hood to make the change.

for flatwater people, removing the hood is no big deal.

although i agree removing the switch is dumb.

i have read that some people do it to reduce total fuel line volume, they were saying it gave better throttle response? no idea to the truth of that and i'm sure 99% of us would never notice it if it was true.

Ok, I hate not having it on my SJ. It was purchased that way. I hate it. When I bought my blaster, I intentionally ran the thing dry because I was changing premix oils. I hated it. I had to swim the thing back, but the wind countered my efforts. WENT NOWHERE! Had to have a 12 year old tow me back on their seapoo.:sneaky:

That is not fun. Last summer, let some friends ride my SJ. Ran out of gas with them on it. Had to take another ski out and swim it back. NOT FUN.

I will pick one up on ebay when I find one for $5.

it looks like its not coming out i didnt get the 45 degree things, i didnt even think about the oil and stuff on the mats, thats all i want is silicon on my mats. So where did you guys put your bildge fittings just on the sides?
