Whats the deal on that....I've always mixed oils in my bikes and ski's and never had a problem.....but have told people that asked me that it is bad.....why?:27:

What I was told I should do. Figured what was the harm... except embarrasment. Just do not not do it solo.

I've got mine out into the tray. The switch is just to the right of the outlet.

When I bought the ski, it had been repainted and I wanted as close to a stock looking ski as possible so I ordered the decals and installed them. I also put the stock handlebar cover on, had stock "looking" hood graphics printed, and a few other aesthetic items.

Thats hilarious, I never knew anybody who did that. I think you want to be reminded that if you fall off at high speeds you should be wearing neoprene otherwise you might get water in your vagina. haha

I don't have oil or gas in my engine compartment, if you do then you have problems.

This is the most diluted comment I have ever heard!

It's a motor, it has chemicals, gas, gaskets, and sealints in it and on it. Guess what, it's not perfectly clean. I keep my motor clean, if it went untouched, it would get dirty.

If you think your engin compartment is that clean, would you eat off your motor (literally)?

Do not forget the chemicals used to winterize and ride in surf. You have to make sure there is a layer of fogging oil, T-9, or something of the like to prevent rust over winter or in the surf.

So if your engine comartment is that clean, you may not be doing what you are supposed to, or its OCD.

I hose the engine compartment down with salt away after every time I ride, yes I would eat off my motor. I'm not saying its spotless, but when I turn my bildge on gas and oil doesn't come out. I ride in the surf, we don't have gay rules like cali where you have to ride over to the base to ride. Again I said if you go on long rides you should probobally keep the switch, all I ride in is the surf. Your ski doesn't just die when gas gets low, it starts to spudder a little bit when the gas gets low and that is time to refuel. Usually don't ride long enough at one time to run the tank dry anyway.

I got rid of my fuel selector b/c I switched to an XFT tank. But that was my intention, I typically ride for about a 1/2 an hour and burn about 1/2 a tank on the OEM tank so the xft suites my riding style. If I was a surf rider there is no way in hell I would get rid of the OEM tank or fuel selector, I would Imaging the reserve would save you more than once. Simply running it until it sputters is kind of a reckless way of figuring out that you should have kept that reserve.

Does anyone have any idea on whats happening when you are ripping around on a tank ready to run out of gas and it sputters ?? Thats not the time to head back if you want your top end to last.. ( your mixture is beyond just being lean)

Run your bilge outside of the tray.. on a worse case of finding out you have a problem with your ski (blown coupler, fuel leak, etc., splashing gas/oily exhaust water in your eyes/crotch wont help one bit !

one more thing i aways have my primer in the tray (no matter how many i break) for the reason of, getting a lil water in the engine and stalling (nothing worse being caught in waves, boat coming, friends coming to splash you, etc. and can't start you engine fast )

Ok, maybe sputter wasn't the right word to use. Somehow myself and the 20 others I ride with can tell when the fuel gets low without blowing our engines. If you are out of gas the ski won't run, it won't just run lean then blow the engine.

:haha:
that is by far.......my favorite warning sticker that adorns a cabinet in my garage. Just another reason why I tell my wife she can't ride the SJ! It's for her own good! Flip side of that argument of course would be like a Trojan ad.... for her "pleasure."

for flatwater people, removing the hood is no big deal.

although i agree removing the switch is dumb.

i have read that some people do it to reduce total fuel line volume, they were saying it gave better throttle response? no idea to the truth of that and i'm sure 99% of us would never notice it if it was true.

:woot: :woot:

yes!!! it DOES make a differnce......

i too am petcockless :27:

since I only run single carbs, I take the reserve switch out of all my boats...maybe I have a good mental clock, but I can pretty much tell how much fuel I have by how long ive been riding...

as far as the throttle response...

the most dramatic effect I have noticed is actually on my 650 stocker....Iremoved the reserve switch so the fuel doesnt have to travel all the way thru it (where it IS restricted) and now only have 2 feet or so of fuel line that the gas has to travel...

now, im not talking the differnce between 150 and 185 psi type of throttle response, but definatly NOTICEABLE and more crisp

and for the love of god do NOT put the bilge outlets so they shoot into the tray ESPECIALLY if you have internal fuel fill...

someone who shall remain nameless :)borladuck: ) sold me a boat that had the damn outlets into the tray.....that ******** was so damn slippery after EVERY fuel up...

finally I got smart and got a couple of 45 degree outlets and problem solved...

The Good Old Days
I found that I slip and slide in my tray just after I apply sunscreen (the wife makes me use that crap).
Never from the bilge water that shoots right into the tray and I do spray my motor down with T-9 after every ride.

I guess I'm lucky to get enough water into the bilge to dilute the trace amounts of chemicals.
