Fuel Tank Mounting, Methods, Thoughts, Ideas...

Hey,

I'm working on installing/mounting strap hooks for a Rad Dudes Broni Fuel Tank in my XFR and I was wondering how some of yaw have gone about securing your aftermarket tanks. If anyone is willing to share pics of how they have their aftermarket tanks secured or has any advice from past experiences I would appreciate it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a Broni tank, as this could honestly apply to any of the aftermarket tanks out there.

My current plan is to glue up 4 new UFO mounts and use the OEM strap hooks with the rubber bumpers on the front to hold the tank in place.

Here are some pics of my current planned layout. The 2 aft mounts will be easy but the 2 up front I'm still not sure about. If I mount them flush on the hull the bumpers are at a pretty steep angle. 20220419_180605.jpg20220419_180608.jpg20220417_171138.jpg

Make a cradle, it will keep it 100% in place

Alternatively, when I used to have a large aluminum tank in a different hull, I had issues with it staying put. I made a ratchet strap for it. Four mounting point, two forward, two aft. Thick padding on the bottom, that tank never moved again. The issue I ran into with rubber straps was that in trying to get the strap tight enough to keep the tank in place, the strap would eventually break

Aluminum tape and Vaseline. I did not mold it with foam in place but I do have a piece of 1/4in foam under the tank currently

Because some things just look better naked. Like the tittle says, naked, no graphics, no decals, no paint, no powdercoat, no lipstick, no mascara. Picked this up from the Captain a couple of years ago, finally finishing up. First step: undressing. Believe it or not, removing graphics took off...

Hey bro,

I have the shorter one, which holds 3.25 Gallons of fuel. I can check, this evening, and see how much clearance i have above mine to see if the larger one would fit. I will say it is a pretty stout tank, so if your going for maximum weight savings that might be worth considering.

l think you are right on tract with mounting two ufo’s like in the pic. My method has been the same for years. Gflex for the first step, than some thickened epoxy mixed with glass shreds, then a small piece of carbon over the whole mount, tying it into the mounting area.

So, I actually ended up using 4 UFO mounts in mine and then 4 of the bumper type strap hooks to help keep everything in place. So far it has worked great, but making a tray for the tank would have been just as good. Ill post some more pics here shortly.
