Super Jet Fun fact

For todays fun fact: I was at the Detroit boat show yesterday and was talking to a lady about the new superjets. Yamaha makes and sells around 250 stand-ups a year.

Thats pretty interesting. I know the last year SXR (2011 I think?) was numbered 1-500 so at this point 250 sj seems about right. I hope they continue to make them for years to come......

how many guys are going to pay 9 grand for a new boat, just to take all the worthless stock crap off and $hit can it, just to add another $3000 to make it fun to ride? then end up reinforcing the hull so it can take abuse. i think kawi and yami smell the stench of a rotting corpse , thier own.

exactly...I did just that with my 08 and it was very stupid of me to do it. With all on the money I have into it I could have a nice aftermarket hull and a sweet motor.
Not saying my boat sucks but its nothing really special.

yea, i bought a used 08 for 4k. planned on tricking it out, found an 08 hull for $800 and sold the other 08 for $6000 and i still have everything thats good about the 08, the hull! should change this threads title to SAD FACT

While I agree with most of what you guys are saying (I build my 97 from a blown up ski for much less than purchasing a new one) I do know quite a few people who buy a NEW standup every five years or so and leave them stock just to cruise the bay. The guys house where I kept my boat did this along with his neigbor, they both bought a new kawi every few years just to rec ride. Also a women my girl works with and her husband do the same. There is a small market out there for people who know nothing about them and how to fix them that just want something stock and reliable, which is great because then we pick them up in a few years for a great price and mod the balls off of em'. I just hope once they do stock making them for good the AM picks up where the manufacturers left off...... at this rate it looks like this may actually happen.

If government regulations weren't so tight Yamaha and Kawasaki could step up their game and make a boat people actually wanna buy but i see hell freezing over first

I always wondered this myself, why take a new stock ski and rip it apart. I understand it if you are going to leave it alone, but why not just pick up a clean oem older ski for 2500 to 3K?

There is a whole other side. There are plenty out there that do not care to roll, backflip, ride the surf. There are also a large number of guys called Racers. You know, the guys that go and make turns around Orange and Yellow balloons floating in the water.

some people don't want an already hacked ski, that was repaired 20 times by someone who don't know how to repair glass or has 5 different layers of paint... you'd be surprised how many people with stand ups don't know how extensive the a/m support is.. there's two sides to every story i guess... i think sales would be higher if people were just less lazy, it's amazing how many people come up to me and say "i can't believe you bought a stand up" after asking why they say that it's always the same response "they're so hard to ride"... after asking if they've ever tried most say they haven't... I'm sure I'm not the only one to encounter this situation...

thats just silly BK. silly. another thing to think about, you go buy a used couple year old ski now.. to save some money. find an 08 that hasnt been beat up and is good for the surf. whats going to happen in a few years for the new guys. they'll be forced to buy older abused skis that need to be torn apart and reinforced anyways. fun fact for the day. the animal that is related closest to the T-rex is a chicken.

I bought a clean 2004 sj all stock. For a little more money I could have had a lot more power and work done. However? I'm not going any kind of big right now. I wanted a stock ski that hasn't been abused and was ready to ride without issues. If I had more money, I would have bought new. I was pleased with my sj for about a year all stock.

Something I learned from riding quads... I used to beat yfz450 in the trail on my yfm350 (warrior) because the guys on the bigger quads never learned how to take a corner. They just used to beat me I. The straights with pure power and lagged behind on tight courses. I learned a lot on my warrior and only upgraded when I got to the point where I was pegging the throttle all the time.

I'm not bragging about my skills in a quad. I seriously suck on a quad. My point is having something tame and reliable and learning skill and technique gives a better and safer foundation than just buying a bunch of parts and hoping you can figure out how to put them together and use them.

If Yamaha stops producing, it'd be more than a black eye for our sport. More like a few broken bones that just won't ever be quite right again. The aftermarket hull builders will never have the reach and power that Yamaha does. Which hull builder is putting out 250 hulls a year anyway? A complete running ski for $9000 is much better for a new/rec rider than an empty $5k hull.

Think like the average person, not a veteran in the sport. Barriers to entry are high enough now.

i'm glad that there are guys out there that want clean unmolested boats and are willing to spend more since its clean. i sell cherry, bone stockers to full mod boats and everything in between. i've got a spotlessly clean 96 that i'll get $4000-$4500 for it and thats a deal compaired to $9000 and the guy that buys that one knows it.

Honestly, $9000.00 is much more appealing than spending $15,000.00 on a short AM hull that you can barely do anything more than flips and rolls on. I can take that Stock SJ and go race, I can ride waves, flatwater freestyle, so many options. Add $1500-2000.00 (footholds, Pipe, Head, Prop, Turf, and Intake Grate) I have a ski that can do anyting but a back flip flatwater. Still more appealing than spending $15,000-$25,000 for a Hull that has very little variation in use.

Wait, where did $9000 come from for a new SJ?? http://www.yamahawaverunners.com/superjet

New this list for $8199.00

thats why i have a fleet of boats. i change boats more often than underware. i wish everybody had that option. i'd probably sell more boats........... and all i can do is flips n rolls. i cant even ride a jetski. you should have seen me on the track with my freak, doing unintentional supermans and getting rag dolled. the crowd got a good laugh at my expense and thats okay.
