FW BF technique (tuck or extend?)

At a recent free ride the topic came up on the best way to BF, I.E. Tuck or Extend.
I'd like people who BF on a regular basis to chime in, i'm interested to hear the feedback.

Option A:
"Tucking" Hit wake, pull bars, do not extend but still look back to spot landing. Thought being that extending slows the rotation (think gymnasts or circus performers doing flips mid air).

Option B:
"Extending" Straighten your legs, arch back, etc. This is the method we're all most familiar with. Once again, the discussion is that in a Surf flip, you get so much height that you want to extend to slow the rotation a little.

This is all just theory and discussion, i'm not advocating one over the other. I suck equally. I'm just trying to suck less.

Annnnnnd.... GO.

Anytime I'm about to under rotate I tuck up to speed up the rotation. If I go bigger than I expect and want to slow it down, I stand up and stretch out. Sometimes just to help stomp a landing I'll kick out a little right at the end but I'm already around at that point.

I suck so take this with a grain of salt, but I have a tendency to tuck (especially tucked over the bars) which slows my rotation down like crazy. I'd think if I could get my brain and muscles to cooperate, extending might help me not slow my rotation down so much. Well @Philip Clemmons keeps yelling at me to look back and not tuck so far over the bars. I'd think extending might help those who have a tendency (like me) to lean over the bars a way to not slow down the rotation so much.

I started out doing the arched back, legs straight and nosed in about 100 flips before I started tucking and I ride them out consistently now. If I hit the small part of the wake, or know I didn't time it right I tuck tight and pull hard, if I know I'm going bigger I extend a bit to slow my rotation.

Post some vids of your technique Swap.

Look how tight I tucked to nose in flips on a Vision:

Compared to barely tucking on the Trixstar:

i SUCK at flips. being able to flip off flat ground and run up walls and flip i thought flipping a ski shouldnt be to bad lol. i was dead wrong. sadly i did better my first day trying flips on my friends ski than where im at right now. after studying my pictures and whatnot, ive realized that it seems best to push/ extend your legs at the beginning of the flip and once your halfway around, start tucking and pull the bars the rest of the way. my worst attempts were when i got tired and never pushed with my legs and started tucking almost right away. im a visual learner so id love to see more videos of the pros shredding on 701 setups so we can study how their getting it done.

Sorry, but I highly doubt you'll see vids of pros shredding on 701s. I think the most you'll see is a single flip to prove their hull can do it with a 701.

Lol Daniel Martin chases boats on our lake regularly on his White KDX with a 701, bpipe, mag, enhancer etc and crushes flips and rolls. Unfortunately watching him while riding with him is very demotivational because my ski is probably within 20% of the performance of his. (I imagine his is lighter but mine might have a little more power) So I see what's possible and it just drives home how big of a chicken I am.

Haha yeah I hear ya. I rode near the xmetal guys a couple times at Havasu last year and as soon as they got out there I wanted to go as far away as possible from them. It's intimidating and embarrassing riding near them lol.

There is a big difference in tucking and squatting/leaning back. For the fastest rotation you want to be centered on the ski, with bent knees. If you bend your knees and move rearward, that's squatting and not good. It typically hurts rotation significantly on slide and hop flips, (the rear sinks and you get less air/rotation). On a setup wave its not as detrimental but not ideal. I couldn't do multiples, even with big power, until I got centered on the ski. Now the challenge is not over rotating. Standing centered with bent knees is ideal. Moving forward or rearward while keeping knees bent controls rotation.
Speed is a huge factor too. The slower you go (assuming the pump still hooks), the more you will rotate. Hitting the wave faster yields more height with less rotation.
Keep in mind I'm not a great rider by any means, but have learned most of what I know the hard way.......... by trial of 1000 pancakes. :)

i was just going to mention that. his instagram has quite a few videos of him killing it with a 701. i dont think it matters how that guy does them though. hes a machine. it definately hurts my feelings every time i watch those videos.

lol that and maybe a ski that would run right. year 3 of chasing problems and s**t luck is almost in the books =) corey let me try my first flips on his ski and heres a sequence of my 3rd or 4th attempt. tucked and centered just like phil said seems to be the key! even tho this is very far from good, i noticed i got furthest with my body being closer to centered. the worst fails were when i was leaned wayyyy back for the whole rotation. like my a** hanging off the back of the tray even during mid flip.
