So I am in the process of installed a Kawi 650 pump in my fx1, I have read all of special fx's post on "Another dang fx1 pump thread" and it has been super helpful, how ever like many I am a little new at glass work. Laid my first piece of mat last nite and it turned out great. My question is, I have a thin piece of foam showing where the pump shoe installs at. Should I grind deeper and lay mat in there to build it up or can I just resin over top of this spot? It is only maybe half inch wide and my pump shoe fits in there really nice right now, but if anyone thinks I should do the extra work in this small spot I will definatly do it. Any advice much appreciated.

you need to seal it off. resin will work but its best to add some filler for strength like milled glass fibers or chop strands to build it up. then sand and shape it down. you can also take a piece of wax paper put it in between your pump housing and the new resin mix you laid in there. install the pump and press it into the shape. let it dry and then pull the pump back off and wax paper. this how I did mine.

Sounds good man. I put another layer on the mounting again today. I think I'm getting close to where I got to be. I'll defiantly do a little more work in that shoe area. Defiantly no fx of the century but should be mighty fun
