FX-1 FX re-do "Frankenstein Unbound"

It was time to freshen up my "Franky" FX. This was the first FX with a Kawi 650 pump and it has served me well, but after 4 years of beating the crap out of it and tweaking the hull shape on my other FXs, it was time to go back on the operating table!

To stay with the theme, it has once again served as the canvas for a new pump conversion.

Sit back, relax, get a cocktail of your choice and watch 4 months of grinding, itching, cursing, toxic fume inhaling, condensed into 4 minutes for your viewing pleasure......

JD you have outdone yourself again!! Very impressive! Ride report??? Hope you can get it out in the surf this weekend!

Excellent Build, truly an inspiration.

Ride report......

In the surf this thing is freaking awesome! The pump hooks up like crazy and the raised rail/rocker makes almost unpearlable. It has more steering authority than my other FXs, so my B-rolls feel a little tighter also. I ride high (very) speed flat water rides (creek rides for those that have seen the videos or have joined us in Brig) as often as I ride surf and I'm still getting used to it at speed. I changed so many things it's hard to tell what exactly is challenging me, but I'll get it dialed and when I do, I expect to push my high speed riding up a notch.

A couple things that aren't real obvious from the slide show I posted are, 1) I removed 1" from each side of the vertical section of the tray, so I'm getting my weight further over the rail in turns. 2) I fabricated a 2" setback into the pump design, which moved the nozzle back and gave me more steering than I'm used to (FX has very little ratio compared to SJ).

The engine is very nice. It has very smooth, predictable power delivery and is very similar to my 900 Kawi powered FX but about 30lbs less.

So far, I'd say it's a t*ts in the surf and will be t*ts in the creeks when I get it dialed.
