Fx1 pump

Seems like everything thread I read says scrap the 122 and mount a 144.. but I'll be honest I really don't wanna chop up this mint 95 fx1 it's show room condition

Has anyone had any luck with the 122?

In the market for suggestions and impellers if anyone wants to get rid of some 122 junk ;)

I put in a Dasa 850 and 144 pump in mine many years ago. Yep, more hookup and bottom end for sure, but I can honestly say it wasn’t necessarily more fun. A lot of work, and a lot of details to get it right (like hogging out the intake). Doing it over, I’d skip the pump and stay with a JM built motor and the right 122 prop.

We had a CFD model of the intake and pump, and found that you really don’t take advantage of the bigger pump unless the intake tunnel’s hydraulic diameter is greater or equal to the pump. The smallest diameter controls flow, and creates a low pressure area behind the shoe at the outside of the prop, which is the most important area. This is why we opened up my intake and shoe to 144+ and it might have been more work than it was worth, considering my comment about fun factor.

My only complaint is in the white wash in surf...your just hanging on and hoping for the best at that point. Tray time helps. I put in a different prop and enhancer, D cut pro tek plate, R&D top loader grate, -4 inch SJ pole, reinforced hull, hood straps. Pump suffers in white wash where my SN with the 144 still has some control where I can just power out to the front edge and drop. However, the FX is much more fun than the SN. For the conditions I primarily see, it keeps it fun for sure.
