i just tried to open my garage with this trick but i used my matco lock out kit witch is a lot thicker then a hanger and i popped the zip tie right off... just a heads up, put on 2 or 3 ties on or a really big one. my hanger rod couldn't brake 3 off sorry i didn't try two i broke one off and then just when to 3 its a tight fit in the hole but it can be done

At the risk of possibly jinxing myself, is this really that widespread? Aside from this thread I've never heard of this. Most people around here seem to prefer the old-school kick to the door.

Last Sunday we took our kids to the lake. Left at 8am and got back at 6pm. Everything was ok when we left. When we got back, someone had broken the upper glass on our garage door and tried to pull the string to disengage the door. I always latch it, so they were unsuccessful. Just goes to show....
