stop posting and start scrapping why spend the money on that tool you are not rebilding engines all of the time, nice work with the magazine go to that site everyday

im at work right now (thats why i get to post lol)

write for the magazine from 5am-730am (glad u enjoy it btw)
then work from 730am-4pm
hang out with my son from 4pm-830pm
watch tv for 30min then go to bed...

so when i work on my ski i have a 1year old as a helper..hes good as long as i can keep him entertained/have him help me but last night he lost patience after about 20min of watching me scrape gaskets haha..

those roloc discs are not 60 they are like 5 bucks apiece Dont buy a whole box just get one it will do several engines they are tough and come in different rough nesses

Have you considered using a razor scraper? Keep in mind it takes a lot of blades , buy a box. I usually scrape off most of the gasket with one blade, then install a new one and finish that surface. Approx. time spent, maybe 5 minutes at the most, and no damaged aluminum.

i got an exacto knife set that had a flat scraper blade...i was using that but some of it is on there really good..

like i said it got hot and it seems like the gasket is baked on worse than normal..

several years ago my wife and I were having a date, you know, it is when your kid was somewhere else and we should have been doing something else!!!!!!!. Well, We were talking instead, (this is not a bad thing, just not always my idea of a "Date") and she made the comment "When you leave work ( I work form 6:00am to 5:00pm) you get to leave it all behind you"........ I just looked at her................ then said "Yeah, I leave my job, get home and start my other full time job of taking over for you when I get home (around 5:30) until it is time to put Izzy to bed (Izzy was 1 or 2 at this point).......... She just looked at me like a lightbulb had gone off in her head. She was trying to put the "I am at home all day with her with no breaks" when she realized that she got a break from the time I got home until the time she goes to bed and that and I was not getting any break what so ever.... It was 5 am - 10 pm wide open with no breaks for free time.........

So, yeah, I totally get the "very little time". But it is worth it.

Im a auto mechanic and I always use scotchbrite discs that go on a 90 deg air grinder. You'll have a much easier time finding those. Found some pictures online I psoted below. I use these all the time for stubborn paper gaskets. They come in all different grits. Harbor freight has everything - the 90 deg grinder, holder and discs for like $40. Any auto body supply store should have this also. Good luck

instead of a razor blade you can use a gasket scraper...razor blade with a handle.

You guys are nuts using air tools on Al cases lol. Those rol-locks will grind through a steel strut tower on a car. Don't ask me how I know :). I have hundreds of them, but I do all my work (and customer work) with a razor blade. If its really stubborn, chemical gasket remover will soften it up, but the razor works best. You can lightly scrub problem areas with a wet scotch brite by hand. I've done far too much metal work/fabrication with those (and seen what they remove) to trust them on cases.

lol for the impatient or in a hurry like the OP my method works great but I do understand where you're coming from. When I had a get off on my new Ducati I ended up using that chemical gasket remover. It works slowly but it does help. Only reason I did it "properly" is bc the cases on that motor cost as much as a DASA short block would.

IMO if you don't beast it with the Roloc or scotch brite it will be ok.

EDIT: Oh, and after that crash all I had was free time

I agree. I blew out my base gasket over the summer. Got most of it out with a razor, but the left over hard caked on areas gasket remover ate it up into a paste for easy cleanup. Done in 15 mins I think it took me.
