Other Gel battery questions

I'm wondering if you guys can school me on gel batteries. Up until now I've just used the standard ones that you fill with water. can I use any trickle charger on these, does it have to be a pwc specific battery or can I use any gel battery due to their sealed nature, and is there one brand that is better than another? I have to buy local because I need it within a few days. I'm thinking of just going to batteries plus and hoping they have one. Thanks for the advice

IMO AGM or Gel batteries is the only way to go in a pwc, you dont have to worry about acid getting in your hull and they usually last longer. I run Yuasa AGM batteries in all my skis, AGM is usually a little cheaper then Gel, but you cant go wrong either way. As long as the battery fits your ski and has atleast 200 CCA your be fine.

I'd get a Shorai next time, not too happy with Ballistics. If you go to batteries plus the X2 battery has never let me down, but is not as light as lithium batteries like shorai and ballistic. These both should work fine untill you drain them and abuse them too much. You can charge them on 2v with a normal trickle charger most of the time, but if you drop one of the cells you will need a special ballancing charger to even out the cells. Lithium batteries are around 150 -200 dollars, and ballancing chargers are close to $70.

I've liked those X2 batteries as well. I think the warranty is 2 years. I had to use it once and the other 4 have lasted 4 years with no care needed. A couple are getting weaker now but luckily I am reducing the fleet and they will get sold with the skis or I would probably replace them as preventative maintenance this year

Worth the extra money for sealed batteries. I have been running Deka batteries for years. I have the standard size in my GP1200 and the one that is 1" narrower in my X2. The X2 battery is about 5 years old and goes through periods of sitting and periods of heavy use, still working great. I just picked up a walmart quality sealed battery from electro (battery plus competitor) and they assued me it was as good as my Deka. At 40% the cost, I figured I'd give it a shot, but I expect to be replacing it with a deka next year. Also, the Deka terminals are so much nicer.
