Gel coat

Ill be purchasing a hull in the next couple weeks and it’s gonna be coming to me in primer. I’m trying to find someone that does gel coating. I’d rather not use regular automotive paint Anyone know of a good place to get gel coating done

in mold is the way to do it. Post mold is a good luck getting anyone to lay it.

You can try and find a painter who can add flex agent to the paint. It's what they use on bumpers sometimes. Still dries hard, but leaves it a little flexible. Most don't care though.

I've worked in the composites business and done a lot with gelcoat. Don't waste your money, it doesn't actually bond to fiberglass or primer when painted. It also doesn't spray out smooth, like paint will. It's going to require a lot of sanding and polishing, too. Gelcoat also doesn't harden on the surface when exposed to air, unless wax it added. Just paint it. Trust me.
A new hull is made with gelcoat sprayed in the mold, and has a chemical bond with the resin behind it. It comes out glossy and smooth because the mold is a glossy class A finish.

Gelcoat does stick to everything we have over 30 years in resurfacing it's the steps between the application that make the difference.however gelcoat is not the way to go on something like this. Depending on what primer is used in mold tons of different auto paints can be applied right over it. The paints only as good as the painter

Interlux epoxy on the bottom hull works really well.

Automotive paint in the right hands is very strong. Slicksand polyester primer is very high build, similar to gelcoat without all the hassle. For ultimate scratch resistance spray your top hull with 2 good coats of clear after base coat is applied and then wet sand after curing and reclear with another 2 coats.
