'been nice knowing you guys...

I'm going to try the downhill at Ft. Duffield Sunday and hope I don't die.

It's not Whistler stuff but pretty good from what locals say. $5 gets shuttle runs back up all day.

Cool - love the shuttle runs! I did a bunch of downhilling here in Huntsville - we have some very gnarly, rocky trails. I broke a few friends on those hills, but somehow never managed to break myself, even when I ran the trails at night. Downhilling is the best feeling - no time to think: just point and shoot and trust your instincts. Love it!

What's interesting is looking at some pics from last fall, there is everyone there from guys in full pads/guards/full face helmets with downhill bikes to dudes wearing flannel and bmx helmets on single speed hardtail/rear brake only bikes.

I have a 4" dual suspension and don't plan on hitting any jumps really, but we'll see how it goes.

pics: full on downhiller, squid in a windbreaker bailing, single speed hardtail dude

We have some good short term/long term disability insurance at work now......maybe I should look into this downhill stuff. I've always wanted to try it.

Allen, come on over so you can call 911 for me.

That's about all I could do. I'll sit at the the bottom with my phone. I haven't rode in a couple months. I'm so out of shape right now I probably couldn't even do a down hill run.

Be careful. It looks like there are some pretty good drops if you accidentally go off the trail.

Looks like some fun singletrack there - perfect to get started downhilling. Those kind of trails are great because they are fun at slower, safer speeds, and as you gain confidence you can blast down them faster and faster.

Most of my downhilling was on rock - big limestone boulders to hop off, trails 100% made of rocks about a foot in diameter down to loose shale. A bit sketchy, but tons of fun in restrospect if you are still alive at the bottom!

Sounds like you'd be in front of me still.

Hunter is probably going with me, come on over, we'll all slowpoke it down the runs.

What you got Adrian?

Well, that will tell you how long it's been since I have ridden!! I stopped before people started building specialized downhill gear. My last bike was a Gary Fisher Joshua Z2 - got it right after I moved to the US. I loved that bike: tough as old nails and pretty good suspension travel for its day. It had Judys on the front - state of the art then! I replaced the core with air/air inserts. I put a Stratos Helix Pro on the back: outstanding air/air/spring setup. XT throughout, Raceface for the spikey parts, Chris King headset, which may be one of the best bearing sets ever made for anything! Look SPDs. Can't remember what else now.

I really don't think I've ridden it since I got my jet ski.
