Looking for new shoes for the F250. 50/50 local roads/highway never off road. Plus I'll throw a ton of pellets in the bed every 6 weeks in the winter. 265/70R17

My road is very steep, so tires need to be capable in snow.

Suggestions? (and, yeah, I'm cheap)

Take a few of there recommendations and do a google search for the best pricing, you don't have to buy though them. Hit up marketplace for fresh takeoffs, certainly will have the best pricing. Tire prices, like everything else, have skyrocketed due to all the money printing.

I just went through this and bought from American tire (they will price match if you find cheaper, even ebay) And I went with the MICHELIN® LTX® A/T2 . So far so good driving on dirt, the beach, towing, etc. Play around with the sizing of the tire, in my case going with 1 size narrower then i normally run (only a few mm) it cut the price from 1500 to 850 for a set of 4.

Never tried them before but bought a used SUV with the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S and absolutely love them. I always thought Coopers were second tier manufacturer but turns out they are made in the USA. I have had them in the mud, dunes, Moab and desert and they do great everywhere. On road they are smooth and quiet. They also have the mountain snowflake rating for winter. Since having mine two coworkers bought them and love them too.
For your size TireRack has them for $197 each.
If you wanted to stick to an E rated tire you would have to step up to the Discoverer AT3 LT which is about $50 more per tire and not Mountain snowflake rated.

MIchelin LTX M/S are just about the best tires I've ever owned. Quiet, great grip, great longevity and suprisingly good off road. You'll never regret buying a set.

Dang you are catching up to me! Covid kept me from putting many miles on my truck, but I am at 119K of blissful, problem free miles.

Daytona trip each year, South Florida this year, first 2 years many trips to Hugo, Sebastian once........ Plus work.
They pay for my gas and tires.

Goodyear DuraTracs. They will be three years old this November and people still ask me if they're new! I have about 55k on them now.

I use them on the beach every other day. They are a Snow rated tire(Snowflake). When it snows in Wisconsin, I go out driving for fun. They are that good.

Discount Tire Black Friday sale along with Goodyear Rebate mail in. My 265/65R20s were around $800 after 10% off and a $250 rebate.

Those about the only Goodyears I have heard were any good. My old Titan had Goodyears (dont remember the model), 20,000 miles max is all I could get out of them.

I heard bad things about the Kevlar Goodyears.

I LOVE the look of Duratracs. I was on the fence with BF Goodrich KO2, but the Duratracs were snow rated, and I don't do heavy off roading. That being said, I've been border line stuck in sand and pebbles with them multiple times and they always got me out. Air down or find some boulders and walk it out.

*edit - KO2 tires are now Snow Rated. They were not when I checked in 2018

I just got 4 Cooper Discoverer A/T for cheap on my Ram 1500. I drive through high mountain passes sometimes towing up to 8000 pounds here in Colorado. I also drive sandy desert conditions to get out to remote camp sites. There's plenty of rock embedded side hill roads and sometimes a wee bit of 4Lo crawling to get to a fun spot for remote camping in the hills as well. I chose this tire not because it's the best at the off road / 4x4 or has a 3peak snow rating but because it will do all that (with a halfway decent driver behind the wheel!) and still last 40k miles (or more) while driving 400 miles each way on the highway to get to my 10 miles of off-road destination haha. It also has a 121 load rating which I want when towing a rock crawler rig on a car trailer.

$136ea with free shipping -Walmart online has a surprisingly good selection of tires for cheap and because of all their supercenters out there - they provide free shipping and hold the tires for you for 2 weeks (Their mount and balance prices aren't bad either - not the best but certainly convenient for a one stop shop approach).
