Do you guys use Rain-X or some other stuff to help keep water from beading?

I got a GoPro 3 with wifi remote and a couple bags of extra accessories/mounts for a early Christmas present. I made my first water video test the other day and it had a big water spot right in the middle of the lense for most of the 15 minute video. :banghead: I was doing a helmet mount.

I have some rain-X around here somewhere, but is there a better alternative?

TIA!!

Rain X and Good camera techniques will give you the best results when filming with a Gopro. You will still get h2o spots with Rain X so thats where the good filming techniques come in. After your lens has been Rain X'd, You need to submerge the camera often to remove the splash drops you get while riding. I usually dunk my camera every 5 min or right before I film a big move/action sequence. One of my really good friends is a staff photographer for Surfer Magazine. He said Licking the lens is very temporary. It works for surf photographers because they are usually sitting in the water with a set of fins on in the line up and can continuously lick there lenses and dunk the camera before a shot. Its not practicle for our sport as we usually mount the camera where it would be very hard to continuously lick. Getting good footage is a lot harder than it seems. For every Hour of video I usually only get about 3-5 minutes of usuable footage, the rest gets edited out and deleted.

15 minutes is a long video. Unless it is a race, I stop and start frequently. The videos are fine to watch, but if you want to edit the file, you better have a fast computer to compile all that data.
