Super Jet Got a RN couple of questions.

Hey guys just picked up a 97 RN today knowing it needed some work (got a really good deal) and have a couple of questions. The motor mounts were broken on the ski about 5 years ago and it has sat since then. I pulled the whole ski apart in order to clean and fix anything that needed to be taken care of. I have 2 issues with the ski that need to be addressed and am not really sure where to start. The motor did not want to turn over by hand at all, I sprayed some CRC in it and used a wrench and got it to free up. Now it turns by hand but it feels more difficult at some points, I am thinking it is going to need a rebuild. The cylinder has some light scoring in it but nothing major, and the inside of the motor does not look corroded. What is the most cost effective way to get thing thing running? Do you think I could just buy a top end kit and have the cylinders cleaned up? How would I know if the crank is bad ? I have never rebuilt a 2 stroke but have experience with car motors ect. I am just looking to rebuild it to be stockish and reliable. Also the carbs were all corroded and just full of crap, how much is a set of new carbs? Any benefit to getting some aftermarket carbs on an otherwise stock 701. Thanks for the help and I hope to be riding this thing soon.

Here is a quick pic of the ski as I got it. Not bad for $700 and the original owner, even with the motor issues.....

if it isnt turning over smooth it could also be the crank .. or maybe just teh rings stuck on teh walls ? may be a good idea to pull that engine and have a good look at it .. cost you a gasket kit and if all looks good than you might get lucky and get away with a light hone ...
if teh crank is bad you can pick up one relitivly inexpensive check the boards here if you need one ..
700 is a great deal even if you need a complete rebuild ..

Well I pulled the whole motor apart tonight and the piston rings were seized on the pistons and into the cylinder wall slightly. It caused a slight amount of markings on the cylinders so I am going to need at least a honing and new rings/pistons. The crank spins 100 percent free and all of the bearings turn with no issues, does this mean its all good or is there something else to look for? I think if I get a top end kit and some new gaskets I should be ready to rock....

I have a good useable stock set of pistons .. some scoring but you could reuse them with the rings that are on them and a hone on your cylinder .. cheap $20 plus shipping .. they came out of a good running 61x 701
-but hey yea if your cranks spins smooth and no noise then maybe a nice rebore .5 over and new gasket set with crank seals and do it right :)

I appreciate the offer because $20 to get it running again would be nice lol. I have a friend who builds/ rebuilds skis all the time as a side business. We just ordered some Pro X pistons .5 over and a top end kit to match. He is going to send out my cylinders for me to get bored and it should be all set. Everything else is fine and it all looks like it should work. I stripped the hull last night and cleaned it up a little. Turns out it has a nice stainless impeller in it along with a riva scoop grate and ride plate. The grate needs some paint but its not wrecked in any way. You can see in the pics that the hull is pretty good shape.....

so maybe with a rebore , piston kit and gaskets 300-350 plus fresh carbs that with the $700 you already spent and your still at half or less what that ski is probably worth :)
