GPS App or Trip Computer

Can anyone recommend a phone app that works will on the trails or does everyone use a bike computer?

I use Strava in my spurts when I do bike. Great for comparison on previous times and seeing how you did against others

Strava messed up my phone, it would turn itself on at random times. Mapmyride is what I have found to be the best.

Do yall also use a trip computer or are they pretty much not needed for recionational riding if you have a gps phone app? My goal it's to track progression over time. Trip computers are kinda pricey and not sure if they are as detailed as a app?

I use a specialized computer also. GPS is not accurate on tight trails. But I like the App for tracking and comparing rides. Bike Computers are only about $40.00. you do not need a $500 Garmin.
