Alright so it's winter now, and soon enough it'll come time to get turfing.. Anyways. I'd like to get some insight on the grey underpad. This year I'll be using Tom21's super big holds. I planned on using 26mm plush on the bottom, and putting on as many layers of 8mm grey padding on the top of the holds as needed. However, I've gotten some different insight from both Tom and Toby. Tom says I should stick with plush all around, even on the top inside of the holds because eventually it will compress. I'm set on 26mm on the bottom of the tray because I know the tray gets the most impact.. However I figured that grey on the top would be fine. Toby says plush on the bottom and grey on the top would be fine. I like my holds really tight so I don't have to worry about coming out of them..I also hate that plush pad because it's an absolute pain to work with.. Love the idea of using grey pad near the outside of my ankle and easily shaping it to get the most comfortable setup.

Would really appreciate everybody's experiences with the grey pad, and how fast and easily it really compresses and loses its shape.

As Tom said the grey compresses and eventually stays that way. Go with the plush all around.

when i pulled off the grey stuff i found it compressed in the heavy use spots. i would do the grey in low traffic areas and the plush elsewhere.

What do you think of putting it in the inside top of footholds?

Thanks, already these reviews are valuable. I'm using grey, knowing it's durometer number is lower (too squishy) , but wasn't aware it stayed compressed....

When in doubt, Throttle-out.
Grey underpad is horrible. I used it on the top of my WDK footholds and have been sorry ever since. It stays compressed and honestly hurts the tops of my feet after I kick into them once or twice...

Get the black 'plush' padding with a thinner thickness and sandwich pieces together for the topside of your footholds... You will be forever grateful and so will your feet.

The Grey is good for the top of the rails and a few other contact points to add a little more padding but you can't beat the plush in the tray and holds. Even if you have to sand it down thinner, it still responds and holds up better than the Grey underpad.

Your gonna want plush all around. I found it help lock your feet in to the foot hold just because it doesn't stay compressed so every time is like the first time. Don't use the gray stuff on your foot hold after acoulpe rides it well be compressed and that pad won't really help.
