Grinding noise?

Haven't ridden my SN for about 2 years. Got a new battery and it started up on 2 year old gas. I noticed a grinding noise coming from the ski in the water. It stays consistent with rpm's. At first it would go away and come back after a little while but now its all the time. I figured it was pump noise but pulled the pump and its tight and spins freely. Not sure what to do at this point...any ideas?

Btw - I've put about 15 gallons of gas through the ski and it starts and runs great other than the noise. My Brother has a SN and the noise isn't there. When the ski is running its nearly impossible to isolate the noise.

-I swapped a 701 in this ski awhile back

Is there a grease fitting for the mid shaft? Wasnt sure it could be greased. Anyway to tell if the midshaft is making noise?

I feel like one of those people who ask a mechanic about causes of their car making a certain noise. Its almost impossible to diagnose without hearing or seeing it.

My Brother has a '94 SN all stock and he doesn't have the same sound. He said he could hear it when we rode side by side.

If it was an internal engine problem I thought it would have blown by now. Which I'm not concerned but I do want to ride more this year.

I rode it for hours for 5 days straight with no problems.

When I spin the pump by hand it doesn't hit. I tried forcing it and I couldn't get it to hit. Is there an indication of it hitting?

My midshaft doesn't have a grease fitting. My research shows 90-91's didn't have a greasable midshaft. Any way to check the midshaft without removing it.

I just got home from riding for about 1.5hrs. I decided to ride my brothers '94 SN and his is so quiet and mine is just obnoxious. His is all stock and feels like it has more power. Its so loud when idling around I feel like I should be wearing ear plugs.

I noticed mine has a little vibration through my feet at lower rpms. Is it possible the midshaft is this noisy?

Would a video or something else help diagnose my problem?

You should probably slide the motor forward and spin the drive line coupler by hand this way you can isolate the problem to either engine or driveline. If its pump bearings it will eventually destroy ur prop and wearing by allowing them to make contact. If its in the motor ur running the risk of throwing a rod. A $50 fix now or a $500 fix when it comes apart. Best to figure it out.

I slid the motor forward and spun the coupler and the midshaft is has a grinding feel to it and its noisy. Looks like its time to replace it.

Should I get a newer midshaft housing or keep mine and replace the bearing (bearings?). I guess mine did last 24 years...
