the strength you gain by reinforcing is FAR greater than what you lose in the ribs... the ribs are just compound dust anyway. you're 100% more likely to form a good laminate w/o ribs creating nasty obstacles.
just got done removing the ribs on my ski, die grinder /ziz wheel combo.....10 mins the sand for 2, my question is there is a odd rib with a crew fitting on top, does that one need to go also? or does it serve a greater good.........it looks like it hold a cable tie on my sqaure.
I just did this to mine also and I was wondering if you grind out the glue that holds the top deck to the bottom so you can glass the whole side or do you do the 2 side parts seperate .
I am going to do the bottom tonight and the 2 sides this weekend so please help :banghead:
I used 2-part foam. Others use epoxy with thickener. Nothing structural, you're just looking to create one smooth surface.
Next time around, I would probably go with Bondo bodyfiller.
I used a Dewalt grinder with a 3/8 thick by 3 inch across steel cutting wheel on it and it took about 20 minutes to grind em all flat with ease .
I used marine bondo to smooth out the transition at the bond line and then the glass goes in smooth as shiznit :arms:
