Grips getting chewed up FAST....what do you use?

Just out of curiosity to the MXers - the right grip is not wearing worse than the left, is it? Just wondering if some of the MX 'instinct' might be playing in a bit here as you jump and do tricks...

ODI's rougues are soft so you can get a good grip, they are going to get torn up a bit just like a high performance car tire would wear out faster from the softer compound (better grip). But the grips should last a season or two at least.

I tear grips up quick too, but a harder compound will tear gloves up and they cost more than grips. If you still want a grip that wont wear, try the Renthal MEDIUM or hard compound 4 wheeler grips. They will last forever and they are low profile. I liked them better then the ODI rouge or X-grips but they eat gloves like 2 pair a season.

So basically you are always going to have to replace something... gloves or grips... I would rather just get some new grips once in while... grips should just be a known wear item. I think if a pair lasts 1-2 years of hard riding that is a good set of grips. Now if they last only a few rides... that is a POS.

My left grip is destroyed. I think it's due to me doing my stabs to the left- most of the pulling I do is that way- and when I was learning to do them I slammed into the left side a lot instead of nosing down.

no the right grip doesnt wear more, even thought the twist throttle is on the right you still grip it the same as the left.

its all rider with the ski grips and your riding style. i have the soft compound grips and along with going through the grips in one season i wore out two pairs of gloves. for me i grip the outside of the grip on the ski, i dont know why but if you look at my grips the outside half of my grip on my ski is torn the F up, but when i ride my mx bike the inside half of my grip gets torn up and i get pumped up between my finger and my thumb, so i dunno you figure that one out lol.

the only grips I have had last more than a season were the Renthals, but they ate 2 pair of gloves through a season so I concurr just buy the replacement ODI's 2 at a time. The new X-treme patters seems more durrable then the Rouge but not as low profile wich is what I like (smaller the grip the better for me).

I am on the second season on my Rouges. What I do is rotate and flip them periodically, since I wear the top outside more. That ensures that when the grip is toast, it is toast all way around!:Banane01:

go with the odi x grip. I tear through the rouges like crazy, but so far the x grips have lasted. The ruffians last a long time but my hand cramps up cuz they're too fat.

Creative RE Purchasing
I have been using ODI rouges religiously for years, but I notice that I am destroying them on the SXR. I like the cushion the rouges have, but I am thinking I need a harder compound grip so it lasts longer....I can't be plopping down $25 on grips every two months or so. I don't want to use glue-ons, so I guess I have to stick with ODI's....what are you guys using and how are they surviving?

happens to me too. only on my left hand though :dunno:

no suggestions for you, but I just wanted to say I have the same problem.
