Hairy carb filters

Going through my carbs and both internal filters are half full of gunk.

Quite a bit of the gunk is a hair like substance. At first I actually thought it was hair until I saw how much there actually was.

Where is this coming from? Fuel line deteriation?

It comes from the stock yamaha fuel filter. Use a purolator 20004 and will never happen again.

we have it happening on metal fuel filters and other cartridge style filters. Ive had it fill up even with no fuel filter. They look like nose hairs. What is it?

I just cleaned the same crap out of mine. Found this on Google as a possible source. "fuel deterioration and re-polymerization"
