um, do you really need 8 handholes?
looks a little like a cheese grater to me.
and more places to catch stuff, body parts, etc.
no idea what you would use the front most holes are for.
just my opinion, A+ for effort

My thoughts exactly. I had just seen several AM hoods that were set up like that. Do you think just the 3rd from the front then?

personally, I would go with two each side, a front and back hold
and that should be sufficient.
think about the positions you will get into; you may need a hold on the front or back of the hood
and that is about it.
yes? no?

The 3rd from the front is the only 1 I presently would have a use for. I based the positions of the others spaced off that one. I only started riding the SJ recently and am not sure what else I would need. Hence why I am seeking advice. If I did only 2, where should I put the second one? Right now, I am leaning towards doing only the 1.

Removed the other side. Readjusted the 3rd hold to match the right side. Going to do only 1 hold per side at the location I have shown atm unless someone provides a good reason to do otherwise.

Good advice Mark. This project got a lot bigger than I had planned. I sort of wish I had just done what you suggested. It's working out for me now, but it would have been nice to just cut the hood, cut the liner, add a cup, seal the liner. Too late for me, but good advice for anyone who reads this.

As for mine...

I cut out my templates with a dremmel.

I'm struggling here.

I can't figure out a good way to make nice cups short of pouring a bunch of foam and shaping by hand. Any suggestions?

I laid glass over a plastic cup let dry then took it of the plastic cup trimmed to fit in my hood then epoxy and glass it to the underside of the hood.
