Contours of the hoods are quite different so I can see it. I was never a fan of the drop in styles anyways.
It feels like 20 years ago but I still have pics from when I did mine in my 92 SN.
I shaped wooden blocks for my molds, wrapped them in poly and formed the buckets in glass mat.
The last pic is just a layer of carbon I placed on the underside of the hood liner so that it was visible through either the handholds or rear vents...I can't really remember anymore.

I think it would be more work than its worth Don? The better approach for a stock sq hood would be to take Boyers
(OCD) approach and rebuild the entire hood, that way, he would have the hand holds he wants, plus a hood drain system that actualy works. Much better in the long run.

Thats exactly what I did with my SN back in the day. I also reinforced all sides of the metton once the liner was all cut out. Its a lot of work and may end up a bit heavier than stock but will be a tank and not break on you for hood tricks. When I upgraded to a RN hull, I sold the hood on Ebay right away for $300, believe it or not...

So let me see if I'm picking up what your putting down. You just used the wood for molds to lay glass over then put just the glass pieces in? Maybe a dumb question but how did you make the part your fingers would go in? Did you cut buckets out of the wood pieces?

The wood blocks are molds for buckets or cups. You cut the handhold shape out of the hood shell. Blue the cups on inside. You have to rebuild your liner to do it this way.

The wood was just for a mold.
I made the hood cutouts first, figured out how much room I needed to fit my hand with a glove on and then how much room for my fingers in each direction.
Once I had that figured out, I shaped the blocks to fit that area on the back side of the hood and then layed them up.

Right, I saw how sanoman did his by glassing over measuring cups. I was just curious on how he made the actual bucket with the wood blocks. And I already have my stock liner out I'm definitely making my own liner and reinforcing the whole hood while it's apart

So on the opposite side of the wood in the pictures you posted do you have that kidney bean shape cut into the wood molds?

Nope.
You could use a number of different shapes to form out your hand holds.Doesn't have to be a cup.lf you're married,raid the Tupperware collection (or if not) go down to Target (random example) and look at what containers would suit your needs.Then shape till you get them to fit.The reason l choose plastic,is the ease of popping it out and then throw it away afterwards.
Looks like you just need to be creative and just start trying some ideas out.Lot of good info in this thread.
